It’s easy to end up with a wardrobe fill of shades of neutrals and black. It’s chic, practical and takes you anywhere. However, when the weather outside is gloomy, a bit of colour is the best way to brighten your wardrobe.

Texture can also add interest to a basic outfit – remember all your snuggly knitwear and scarves!

Melon and citrus shades are bright and give a nod to spring, which we so often look forward to in the late winter! The great thing about citrus colours is that they brighten the skin and eyes and are extremely flattering to most complexions – if you are extremely fair skinned, tend towards apricots and melons, rather than lemon and green, otherwise anything goes!

For those who prefer their colour has a little less impact, try sage greens, pumpkin and soft pinks. Colour is unisex – men look equally good with a bright t-shirt showing from under a neutral sweater, or for a touch of fun – wear the colour on your feet!

If you’d like to wear your colour a little close to the skin – why not try a new hair colour? A cheeky red, dramatic dark or bright blonde for a change will put a spring in your step! Nail colour or art is a nice way to finish off an outfit as well.

Dramatic changes in hair colour are best done by a professional. Hairdressers often lament having to fix home jobs as often as they are asked to start from scratch. Professional colouring gives more assured results, longer wear and less damage to your hair.

If you prefer to keep your hair au naturel, try a lip colour that is out of the ordinary for you. Fashion and beauty should be fun. There are really no rules at all, other than it must feel comfortable and reflect your individuality.
