Did you know that what you eat can influence your eyesight?
The plant nutrients lutein and zeaxanthin, in particular, impact macula health.
The macula is the ‘yellow spot’ of the retina, at the back of the eye, which allows us to see clearly and in detail.
In ageing, this area of the retina can degenerate, making vision blurry, causing ‘blank patches’ or a situation where straight lines appear wavy. You might notice it while reading, for example.
The good news is lutein and zeaxanthin are found in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale and zucchini and in yellow pigmented foods such as egg yolk. It’s easy to add them to your diet and eating more colourful foods is a brilliant way to help preserve eyesight.
A supplement may also be necessary if you don’t get enough leafy greens in your diet.
Blackmores products are evidence based and contain 10mg of lutein and 2mg of zeaxanthin. They are tested for quality and purity.
Lutein and zeaxanthin also support people who are sensitive to glare and who spend a lot of time using technology. Blue light from screens is known to harm the eyes.
It pays to get your eyes tested and if you have experienced problems with your vision, get tested as soon as possible. Early detection is important to preserve eyesight.
Blackmores eye health range is available from pharmacies and health shops.
