Thanks Critic- you are a cracker 😀 – that was truly interesting about that tree.
Sorry to have been so slack about posting on here – struggling with a few health issues lately – true what they say – old age ain’t for cissies  😆  😆
Really appreciate any and all posts from other members 🙂

February 2018 – New Zealand Festival

A Waka Odyssey: Kupe brought booming energy to Wellington’s heart

    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/waka-odyssey-kupe-brings-booming-energy-wellington-s-heart

Thousands packed out the capital’s inner harbour to pay tribute to one of the first voyagers to arrive in New Zealand, hundreds of years before James Cook outlined the country.

Polynesian explorer Kupe first landed his waka in the harbour, Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

A large statue now stands in the area.

I remember that beautiful statue standing in a dark corner of the Wellington Railway Station for years, literally covered in dust, and I wondered many times why such a beautiful statue, depicting an important part of our history was virtually hidden away! I for one was pleased when I heard they moved it out into the light!

Hi, Bryan 😀 Lovely to hear from you.
Oh, that is such a shame about that great statue -but it sounds as if it is now standing proud just where it should be. It is a tremendous work of art!

    New Zealand Kea/Conservation status

    Vulnerable – Population decreasing!!!!!!

I wonder why our New Zealand identity has been linked to the sweet, shy, nocturnal kiwi and not to the outgoing, cheeky, pain in the neck, lovable Kea????  😛  😛  😆  😆

Jailbreak offers you the ultimate in self-contained accommodation right in the heart of historic Lawrence, Otago’s first goldrush town.

The old town jail has been restored and converted into a characterful but comfortable self-contained cottage, which sleeps two in the atmospheric surroundings of the original cell complete with cell door with peephole.

    Mana Motuhake

A new $319,000 taxpayer-funded sculpture paying tribute to the Treaty of Waitangi signatories is likely to be installed in Christchurch’s Victoria Square early next year.

Two 4.75 metre-tall upright waka, titled Mana Motuhake, are being gifted to the Christchurch City Council by Crown rebuild company Ōtākaro , which commissioned the work.

The artwork, by carver Fayne Robinson, commemorates the significant Treaty signatories and by extension would support the achievements and memory of Queen Victoria, a council report said.
