Same name, new face - Crown Towers, Melbourne

The Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne is well known for the buzzing casino, high-end shopping, restaurants, entertainment and of course the hotels. On our recent trip to this cosmopolitan city we had the pleasure of staying in a newly released room at The Crown Towers, which is located right in the hub of the city on the South bank of the Yarra River. The interior ‘enhancement’ as it is referred to is dramatic and very in keeping with the opulence you would expect from a hotel of this calibre.

We felt a sense of masculinity in the furnishings, which feature leather walls and bed bases and a colour palette of black, charcoal and chrome. Other textures are used throughout to give contrast and division between spaces. The lighting, providing a softer touch, appeared to have had thought and consideration in the planning stages so that you are able to choose the right combination to suit the mood you require. The glitzy modern chandeliers in the bathroom and over the mini bar combine with the generous appointment of mirrors to give a feeling of glamour and space.

An office desk and comfortable chaise take advantage of your bird’s eye view of the city and the goings on below. The bathroom is chic - with glass and mirrors the highlight. Large double glass doors lead you into this pampering space where an attractive double vanity unit sits between a deep soaking bath and separate toilet and shower, made private with frosted glass doors. Enjoy your favourite TV program on the LCD screen inserted into the tiled wall above the bath or listen to music from your iPod, which you put into the room’s iPod docking station. I appreciated the walk-in wardrobe area with ample room for storage and a full-length mirror for checking one’s outfit from top to toe before heading out. And of course, a 5-star room wouldn’t be complete without plush white towels, robes, slippers and very fine linen.

Other benefits of staying at The Crown Towers include the Crystal Club. Located on the hotel’s 29th floor, it has sweeping views of the city from the double storey windows. Open 24 hours, it makes for an enjoyable breakfast spot or pre-dinner wind-down after a busy day out and about. The Crown Spa is an extensive facility incorporating over forty treatments within its hushed surrounds. They have recently added a new Carita lip and eye treatment to their repertoire. Entitled ‘Remarkable Results’, your therapist will use a special wand on your fine lines and wrinkles and they will instantly reduce and in some cases disappear for up to 72 hours. After this treatment and of course a relaxing massage and facial you’ll look great and feel refreshed – I recommend the ‘Radiant’ facial, Vichy Hydro Massage and Foot Reflexology.

The cuisine offering within the complex is also impressive and with so much to choose from it was hard to fit everything in. With influential Chef Neil Perry’s Rockpool Bar & Grill, widely acclaimed Japanese Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s NO BU, Chef Guillaume Brahimi’s French-style Bistro Guillaume to name a few, we were certainly spoilt for choice.

The Crown has also unveiled its plans to open yet another hotel. Crown Metropol will offer 658 rooms, bringing the total number of rooms in the complex to a staggering 1600! What’s more, Gordon Ramsay will open a Maze restaurant, further securing Crown as a top dining venue and another reason for us to visit Melbourne yet again. The Crown Towers hotel is a top spot to be in and amongst the action, hype and happenings of the wonderful city that Melbourne is.
