"Please choose, Amanda", her Mummy pleaded. Amanda was being allowed to choose her own toy from a very large toyshop, it was taking much longer than her Mummy had expected. Amanda was only four and not used to such big decisions. At last, she pointed to a little grey elephant, "I want him please Mummy." The shop assistant did not look too pleased by Amanda's choice as he was one of a kind and was right at the front of the shop window. However she only knocked two toys over getting him, so Amanda didn't think she had caused too much trouble.
Amanda named her elephant Ben, he became her favourite friend, and she showed him all her picture books and took him to lots of interesting places. She always stood him on the windowsill when they got home so that he could look outside. The trucks rumbling by were so big, the windowsill shook and scared Ben. He wished he were bigger like the elephants in Amanda's animal book.
On Amanda's birthday she got a lovely doll that walked and talked. She was so excited about the doll, she stopped taking Ben out. He was getting faded on the windowsill, but he didn't mind. He pretended he was in Africa in the blazing hot sun with all the big elephants.
One day when Amanda's mother was washing the windowsill, she put Ben in the toy box and closed the lid. Very tidy I'm sure thought Ben, does she know how dark it is in here? Amanda seemed to have forgotten all about him since she had her new doll.
It seemed like a very long time before the box lid opened and Amanda started packing all her toys into a cardboard carton. She carefully wrapped the ones that might break. She was happy to find Ben, she told him they were all moving to a new house. Ben was going to travel with Amanda in her school bag. Ben couldn't see where they were going from inside the bag but he was glad he didn't have to go in the big scary removal truck.
Ben heard lots of traffic noises on the journey, and then Amanda got out of the car and walked a little way. Suddenly they whooshed up in the air, and then there was a loud dinging noise. Ben wondered what strange place they had arrived at. Amanda's new home was an apartment on the 10th floor.
When Amanda put Ben on his new sunny windowsill he got a big surprise! The trucks far below were the size of matchboxes, they were not scary at all. Even the people down there looked tiny like ants. Ben was so happy, he was quite sure he had grown as big as the African elephants in Amanda's animal book at last.
The End.
