JOB LOSS

WELL..... yesterday I became another statistic of this wonderful govt. I was asked to leave my job after being there only 10 weeks. I have spent my whole working life in Customer Service - I LOVE working with people and have life skills to match including working in rehab with stroke victims at PMH Hospital and the old Sunnyside; being a Customer Servide Manager of a large company, worked for the ANZ bank - worked for a Medical Company (and made redundant in Feb) sigh...... I begged them to give me a reason THREE times and they just kept repeating the S$#T that the govt allows them to hide behind -" we have decided that under the 90 day new law the govt has allowed us to use" that you are not suitable for this position and we do not need to give you a reason by law. During this time I was NEVER asked to "pull my head in" I NEVER went to any disiplinary meetings and was never even "talked" to in staff meetings...I....just ....don't ....get....it.... So now what people??

by WandaKR 3rd September 2011 I think you've got cause for a personal grievance myself. I'm the HR for my organisation and depending under what employment contract you were signed in under that's not quite true about the 90 day probationary period if that was how it was explained to you. I'm responsible for drawing up all fixed terms agreements and contract for services and that sounds very much like a PG issue...you did sign a contract did you?
by Deseree 5th September 2011 yes I did sign a contract and I beleive I have a copy too ! I will contact legal advice huh? thanks! wand005 - sylvia
by Possumfurbaby 6th September 2011 Oh good luck. I hope you find another job soon, dont be downhearted. Im 57 and found work again in my area. Keep chin up, and believe in yourself.
by melt001 9th September 2011 The 90 day trial period isn't a "get out of jail free" card for employers even though I am sure some might view it as such. Employers are obligated to communicate with employees during the 90 day trial period and inform them if their performances aren't up to standard. Employers can't just remain quite and then surprise an employee with the news that he or she isn't making the grade. Go talk to someone at the Dep of labour, they would tell you the same. Good luck.
by sandra 56 12th September 2011 Good luck Deseree Fight for what is yours :)
by Deseree 4th October 2011 I went to "free legal advice" and they said there is nothing that I can do according to my contract! They told me (and I quote) "you can thank the National Govt for allowing that to come into force"! I am gutted but! thanks! melt001 I will contact the labour dept and ask them what they think....
by Ockie 24th March I think our job market has gone to the dogs! I am also wondering if the more senior segment of the workforce is being discriminated against. At age 58, finding fulltime employment has become such an issue, I am also considering looking at what is available accross the ditch. Is anyone else in the same predicament, or am I the only one? Sad thing is that despite everything they can teach at the most advanced universities, they could never hope to teach what we have learnt in 40 odd years of life experience.
