Mark Rayner shows how to lay concrete pavers.
You Will Need: 0.45m x 0.45m concrete pavers, 2 bamboo canes or wooden pegs, String line, Sand, Spade, Trowel, Off-cut of MDF, Wooden, mallet, Spirit level, Hand brush.
Place the first and last pavers into position and run a string line between the two, secured to the bamboo lanes or wooden pegs, as shown.

Place the remaining pavers into position making sure they are evenly spaced and in line with the string line.

Use the spade to carefully cut a line in the turf around each side of the first paver.

Move the paver to one side and dig out the square of turf to about 50mm deep (depending on the paver’s thickness).

Place a 20mm layer of sand in the bottom, smoothing flat with a trowel. Use a spirit level to check that it’s level.

Place the paver back into position and tap down into the sand using a wooden mallet and offcut of MDF.

Fill in any gaps around the edges of the paver with soil.

Repeat steps three to seven with the remaining pavers and, once finished, brush off any remaining soil with the hand brush.
Note: If you’re laying a stepping stone path on loose or wet ground, increase the stability of the pavers by laying them on a bed of mortar.
