At sixty five my years of Christmas laughter
have left an playful twinkle in my eye
My mind replaces thoughts of thereafter
With crisp roast pork and blueberry pie.
Each year my world seems slightly brighter,
Wisdom shyly gathers huge rewards.
All mortal wants got smaller, burdens lighter,
And love became the sweetest of awards.
I no longer search for logic in my actions,
nor fear outlandish instincts that arise.
I don’t dig below my level of awareness,
or despair each time my friend or family die.
I know the rose will bloom, time after time
that man will wear his grandfathers smile.
every Christmas the church bells will chime
and one day, I will leave for awhile.
But here and now I smell anticipation
and fondest wishes form beneath my pen.
may you feel the warmth of my affection.
Let the year 09 commit to bringing peace to all men.
