Ron Tustin - Life Coaching

For baby boomers and others wanting to make changes.

"Life is rather like a tin of sardines - we're all of us looking for the key." Alan Bennett

Greetings Revivers,

I have been writing these newsletters for over a year now. The purpose of these writings is to provide some ideas and stimulation for our lives. A lot of the ideas come from people I work with in my ‘real job’, where I work as a coach. So today I thought I would go ‘back to basics’ and talk about the profession I am a part of….

So what exactly IS a Coach?

Coaching has become the leading tool that successful people use to live extraordinary lives. The coaching profession is certainly not new, though it is fast becoming popular due to peoples' increased interest in personal development and an overall need to live happier, more fulfilled lives.

There are many types of coaches that are experts in various fields: Executive, Business, Career, Relationship, Spiritual, Leadership, Success, Performance, and so forth. I, for example, am a Coach that specializes in working with baby boomers looking to make major changes as well as people in the health and social professions.

And why should I use one?

A coach will help you identify and transform areas in your life that are calling to you for change. A coach will be your partner to resolve personal, emotional, behavioral, spiritual and lifestyle issues with the ultimate goal being to help you develop internal and external structures that allow you to achieve success and to increase your potential by expanding your sense of what is possible. A coach will encourage you to develop the necessary skills, attitudes and knowledge that will help you develop action plans to meet goals. In the coaching process a good coach is seen as a collaborator working with you by tackling obstacles such as negative belief systems, time management, organization, problem solving and will use support, encouragement, teaching skills and goal setting. Ultimately, coaching is about discovery, awareness and choice.

During weekly one-on-one coaching sessions, you start by identifying what is most important to you, then define the goals you want and develop actions to achieve these step by step.  A coach provides daily accountability for simple action steps which increase your results exponentially. If you really wish to have a life you truly love and are passionate about, you must get detailed clarity on your strengths, your values and your purpose. It seems ironic to me that we spend a lot of time getting a WOF (Warrant of Fitness) and service for our cars but not nearly as much time on our own WOF (Warrant of Fulfilment).

I coach people from many different backgrounds, different ages and for many different reasons. They want more of something in their life (love, happiness, confidence, self-esteem, success, freedom, abundance, a new career, health and wellness, a more positive outlook, etc.) and/or less of something (fear, stress, procrastination, frustration, anxiety, unworthiness, powerlessness, overwhelm, feeling unmotivated.) But they all have something in common: they are all intelligent, resourceful and conscious minded individuals who want more out of their life, and are willing to take the steps to do so.

We often know we need to change something but have no idea about how to change the situation without external support. A trained, professional coach can help in a variety of ways. A coach can work on belief systems that may be holding you back, be a kind constructive mirror and challenge you to achieve your highest potential. As I work both face to face and over the telephone, I can work with someone located anywhere in the world.

"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." Abraham Lincoln
