Our grand-daughter's cat has just died
On the phone she just sobbed and just cried
And I told her that's
What happens with cats
To console her, I really tried
Even grownups will feel very sad
When a pet dies, no pleasure is had
If they've been a good friend
Right up to the end
The mem'ries won't be so bad...

It hurts when the young ones are sad ...
But she's got you to turn to, Grandad.
Take solace in that ...
And grieve for the cat

One of life's painful lessons is had.
Our cats are our best, furry friends
It will hurt when that partnership ends.
We both hope they'll be gone
Before we two move on ...
But you can't see around all the bends!
They have given us laughter and joy
They're both black, and each one is a boy.
They do not seek higher
Than a place by the fire,
A good feed and a cuddly toy!!

My daughter is nearly demented
The house she and family rented
and thought was long term
Now the owners return
Is quite sudden and wants them absented
A cat's lived twelve years in that home
Left for days at a time quite alone
When the owners weren't there
And they asked them to care
For it else they would have it put down.
But my daughter now loves that cat so
They are taking the cat when they go
And they're moving next Sat
But three days after that
They are booked on a trip they can't blow
So it's me who will now have to stay
In their new rental while they're away
Help the cat to adjust
So I hope it will trust
Me enough and won't pine, and won't stray.

Oh Tis I do hope your pussy-cat sitting goes well
& I guess its one of those things where time will tell
'n just hope that wee puss-puss won't be confused
an' its worries & confusion will all be defused
'n with its new suroundings it quickly will gel.

It's a shock to the system, that's true
When your "home" is swept out beneath you ...
And if you're a cat
It's harder than that
You rely upon humankind, who,
If they're thoughtless and casual, they
Put your life in a miserable way!
But if, like your daughter
They do what they oughter
Your cat-life looks up - it's okay!
I'm sure, Tis, that you are the best
Cat-sitter - bugger the rest!!
That wee cat won't stray
While they are away ...
You'll be there, in the new little nest!!

Thanks Loyal and Catsmum. Alas
My daughter's a sensitive lass
Loves all living things
Creeping, crawling, with wings..
And would gladly collect them en masse.
She hates moving, just like cats do
So thought very hard what to do
But she's still very sure
That their love will do more
Than a house without care. Hope that's true.
And you have both helped me feel better
About this whole thing that's beset her
A problem that's shared
Seems much lighter compared
To being alone as a fretter.

Well tis, we're so glad you feel better.
Hope no more surprises beset yer.
Things will go well, I bet

I feel like a broken down hack
with a godawful pain in me back.
But this old grey mare
will beat it I swear --
if not, I will visit a quack.

Tis, you're a wonderful mum
To you, your daughter has come
Her cat's in safe hands
While she's off in far lands
She knows you're the best, she's not dumb.
That wee cat will surely be fine
With love and caring divine
With people who care
It don't matter where
Whether it's your house or mine.

Yes, doctors know less than we think
Of knowledge they're still on the brink
Their certainties falter
And they're forced to alter
As their previous theories all sink.
