Punch this one up....maybe a bit far out for some of you, but I love what John Hooker can do with his voice, and not very many women (if any) can play a guitar like Bonnie Raitt....
Bonnie Raitt and John Lee Hooker, "I'm In The Mood"

Great Stuff Squirter! I love what Bonnie Raitt's doing to develop young guitarists too - it's great to see those who've made it big give something back. Usually my hackles would rise at the suggestion we girls can't do anything - but you're so right about the way Bonnie plays guitar - there's nothing ladylike about her approach.

G'day Grannyracer,
Bonnie Raitt, to me she's tops. As a muso, how many woman do you see playing a guitar like she does.

Not very many. But strangely enough, Squirter, a guest artist at the 2006 (or maybe it was 2005) Auckland Folk Festival had a pretty good crack at it - an Austalian woman, Bron Ault Connell, who played a very mean blues guitar, in the style of (though not with quite the proficiency of) Bonnie R.

Can't say that I know that one, Squirter. Blues was my forte when I was singing in public - Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Lil Armstrong, that kinda thing. These days I'd be laughed off the stage if I belted out "I need a little sugar in my bowl" and other such musical gems. But at 25 or thereabouts, I thought I was pretty hot. ;-)
