I am trying to find out if there are any European Damson Trees in this country? The trees that I have purchased as Damsons are NOT exactly the same as those we had in UK. Those I purchased bore the same coloured fruit and when made into jam were very similar in taste and quality... but when I came to pickle them (which are fantastic) they just disintegrated into pulp which is not what is supposed to happen. The real clue as to wether they are NZ or Europeans is in the shape. The NZ plums are round and the European ones are more tear shaped with a small amount of resin attached on bottom. If anyone has come across those I am searching for please let me know - - I am on chat line most evenings Thank you.

try to contact heritage fruit tree specialists like kiwaka gardens or koanga gardens kay baxter went on a crusade back in the 90's collecting all the old varieties brought out from UK and abroad if no luck the oldest collection of plants seams to be in the Kaipira District when the albertlanders came and brought the old world with them and many Heritage trees and plants are still available.
Hope this helps
