BD,
""I don't agree Squirter - you know the saying: 'Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.' George Santayana.
If we choose to forget our past, then we may be fool enough to start down the same daft path again.
Remembering the past is not aggravation;its insurance against that."""
If you feel proud about opening up to those Chinese who did not even know about the poll tax in the first instance, and to opening up old wounds to those Chinese that did, but had moved on and forgotten about it donkeys years ago then you keep on doing what you are doing by feeling proud of yourself.
Cheers.

BD, I learned by reading that the original group of Chinese Cantonese migrants and their descendants are called in NZ as "Old Generation " Chinese and are now a minority within the overall Chinese population. Ethnic Chinese from countries other than China began establishing themselves in NZ between 1960s---and 1980s They included Chinese refugees from Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos following upheavals in their countries. It is interesting understanding pathways......

Given that there are now those who claim that the holocaust 'never happened' or that it was far less serious than it in fact was,I believe we'd be fairly foolish to forget the past, lest it happen again.
I'm sorry you can't seem to grasp that. We'll have to agree to disagree on this.

Well I bloody ask you. I just looked in to see what the discussions were about now and I see this evil crap.
Squirty, I think you are wasting your breath on those who are hell bent on dividing this country into racist groups. The only think that multiculturism does is divide and cause racism so it must be the most pervasive and evil movement ever let loose on the idiot class in this country.
Remember the old saying, "A divided house cannot stand".
A divided nation will lead to racist anarchy.
I'm outta here.

Hey Old Jack, good to see you again, you were missed.
I wonder what the purpose is of bringing up those topics, other than stirring up controversy. Or is that the purpose??

Dutchy, It is indeed great to be celebrating the cultural diversity of the people who have shaped and are shaping this great league of nations that is New Zealand.

BD, I have just been reading about The First Wong Family Reunion in Christchurch on January 19th and 20th. 2013. I am going to find out what happened to The Wongs market gardeners of Wharenui Rd .There are many interesting tales of the struggles The Chinese first had as Immigrants and much to be learned.
