Dont you just love how the Govt in its wisdom and kindness, give the pensioners there raise, then to those who happen to live in 'state houses' are sent notice that the rent is to increase a week later, and the power companys do the same. Peter is very much robbing Paul, where the heck is Robin Hood when you need him!

I have been on an Invalids benefit since 2006, now it goes like this 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2010 , 2011 nil tax BUT in 2009 I am told I have a debt of $77 . When I rang Taxation Department to query why having had exactly same income from a benefit for the past 6 years in the middle 2009 I owe $77, and of course because I asked for a tax summary I have to pay,( apparently if I had not asked they would not have sent me a bill ??? ) After much discussion as to the fact that after all living expenses I would not have $7 left let alone 77 and why when the Gov put up the rate of tax did they not inform WINZ and tell them to alter the rate? I actually thought that as a good question , well the answer some what floored me ... Answer to above question "Well it was pretty much general knowledge" hmmmm I think considering that the Gov are very quick to send letters to all employers to make sure they tax their workers at the higher rate , that they would also inform their OWN departments, I must confess that it was a bit of a shock to find that through no fault of my own I now have debt to the Gov for $77 . My advice to folks is don't EVER ask the tax dept for a statement of your taxes.
