I am the best 'digresser' in the business, and why not?
Just because men are more single focused than women.
Telling people off Squirter, does not add to more participation from new members, and old ones for that matter.

G'day GB,
We've got/had a damn good site here and over the past 12 to 18
months we've seen many a member go to greener pastures, ask yourself why. There is a large group of us that correspond off site and the contributing factor is descention when it comes to racism and the tripe that goes on in the politics threads together-with members turning unrelated threads into a political ones.
Go and have a look around love, even OKKA has noticed it among others....and by-the-way, I was not telling anyone off either.
I'm just putting on here what others are afraid to do, and don't you remember when we used to get up to 180 members on here at once all having a swag of fun.
What's the point.

"Is there a rule with Grownups that a discussion must not evolve, or as you put it, '"degenerate"? because it is called a "discussion" not a Q & A site"
Not as far as I'm aware,Tis. You generally find that,not just here but on any discussion site,the subject tends to range widely & wander off topic. I think its just the nature of discussion.

With all due respect Squirter - discussion IS about dissension. That's surely a healthy part of discussion - it wouldn't really BE discussion,would it,if we all held precisely the same views. Have a look at a few other sites & you'll see exactly the same thing;people disagreeing,arguing & discussing.
Though I do agree that when a subject isn't political,then politics should not be brought into it. I think maybe the problem is that some see everything as being political,well that's the only reason I can think of for it - & that happens elsewhere as well,so is not just a problem here but is fairly widespread.

Then gently scan your brother man,
Still gentler sister woman;
Though they may go a little wrong,
To step aside is human:
One point must still be greatly dark,
The moving why they do it;
And just as lamely can you mark
How far perhaps they rue it.

squirter - Very well put!! Cheers
Kai, Bryan, Dr Livingstone.... I know some sites like a new thread to be started as soon as the subject changes which I always found very stifling - but they were always Q & A type groups.
And I do usually try to avoid the subjects that are too incitive. It is so easy to overstep the care of others' feelings when commenting from a physical distance.
