Hi, can anyone help me ? I have an acer desktop, running windows XP. My C drive has become full suddenly, and I think it is because I tried to delete a large file from an exterior hard drive. When I said " delete "a dialog box"came and said that the recycle bin was too small for the file, but did I want to delete anyway. I said "yes "and the file was deleted, where to I do not know, Except , as I said, my C drive is full, so that I cannot even do a "defrag "as there is not enough room. Can anyone please tell me where to locate this file , and how to deal with It.
Cheers, Brian

Hi Lensman,
I gather from what you tell me that there is only a C:\ on it and it does not have a partition. Now, a few questions:
Does the file show up in the recycle bin when you open it?
Have you run a search on it?
How big is the hard drive, and how much free space is left?
Have you removed as many programs through Add/Remove as you can?
Do you have Ccleaner on your computer, and have you run it?

Ok, so the total hard drive space is 40 GB, allowing 20% for the XP operating system. How much space is left on D:\ (Partion)?

Is your Drive J removable storage, like an external Hard Drive?

The cleaners? What are they called?

Ccleaner is the ONLY one that you should ever be using. You can download it from here If you are asked to install a toolbar, uncheck the box.

When it has installed, open it and run it. when you open it, click Analyse and it will tell you how much junk is on your computer. When it finishes analysing, click "Run cleaner". Click OK when it tells you that it will delete files. Wait for it to finish then close the program
Then do a restart.

Get back on here and tell me what happens.

Hi, C B
Here is an amazing thing, last evening I looked my acer c drive, to find that I now had 12.5 GB free space, dont ask me how ,I haven't changed any thing
My cleaners are glary utilities and ccleaner. G.U. came highly recommended by an N Z comp magazine and I use it every evening. CC i use every now and again.
If you would like to keep in touch my email is tiredgoalie@gmail.com
It's always good to have someone to share ideas with. I am very interested in photographt and use photoshop elements a lot.
Cheers, LMbiggrin

Hi LM,
Glary Utilities is very well recommended, just be careful and always back up the registry when you make changes, just like Ccleaner.
Glad that it is sorted now. Maybe its time to get a new computer for all those photos you work with. 12.5 is not much free HDD space and the more you use it, the more unstable your system can become.

Just a tip, not a good idea to put your email on here as the email bots that roam the Internet looking for just that, to send spam to, and can also hijack it to send spam from. Might be a good idea to change your password just in case.

Gee Cookybaby your the wisest cat on the block.I have taken the plunge. My son told me the computer works just fine, but I'd need to get Broadband if I wanted more data, and speed. I checked with all the internet providers; joined Orcon, and then was offered a deal with Clear(my present provider) I couldn't refuse.I will have 40gb to play with.I had forgotten C cleaner, so will download it again.Cookybaby I was given a webcam a couple of years ago.I presume I can use it now? I see there was some problem with the cam using Windows xp when I have windows7. On a question about this, the techno wiz at sogatel.com gave instructions how to overcome this problem. Now I have to find who has Skype. Will remind my son in London who gave me the webcam,he will be able to view his old dad in glorious technicolour.I Hope! I do find your comments very useful.rolleyeslolsurprisedsmilerazzbiggrin

Hello Gerald006,
Good for you! Let me know when you are set up with Skype and ready to test it out. You can send me a friend request and then I will give you my Skye name and we can test your camera out.
Good luck with that!

Cheers CB
