It is in the genes, I believe, The luck in what you inherit. After that it's the plastic surgeons creation. Joan Collins reminds me of Johnny Depp in Alice Through the Looking Glass. Miaowlollol

I watched Master Chef NZ,and I watched Simon Gault give the Vegetarian brains to eat.It seemed to me a challenge, eat them, and you are in.Turn them down, and you are out.Looked like the young man wanted to puke. But he forced it down.Today the young fella seemed a bit happier.winkwinkwink

I totally agree with you as far as our genes define to a large degree how we handle what we eat. My wife and I have the same diet as we almost always eat together, but she has numerous diet related health issues that I don't have which I can only put down to how our bodies process the food. Which all comes back to the genes we were given.

Cheers biggrin

"Dreams are free Old Jack

And always a better class of sheila too Eh!"

Um...Photoshopped,airbrushed images,anyone?!rolleyes

"I believe myself, that in some ways it is healthier, but not if it becomes a hang up, as in the case of those gurus. Myself, I eat meat because SWTSMBO prepares it"

I was forced to eat meat as a child, had to sit at the table & chew until it was this hideous grey mess & then swallow the damn stuff! Grew up eating it,as everyone did then & as an adult I've been vegetarian a couple of times.
The thing is though,I don't much like meal preparation & cooking,so using meat is just easier though I don't use a lot of red meat.
And I agree that people can go too far with food fads;a balanced diet seems to work best. Although,I have a daughter in-law & a granddaughter who are both vegetarian & both very healthy.

Does vegetarian mean only eating that which comes from a plant. what about by products coming from animals, like milk, butter, eggs and cheese.

Looking at a plate of veges every day would depress me, I think. Nuts are not cheap and some are high in calories. I gather that breads are on the list without the spread. I don't have meat every day and beans are a good substitute. Pasta and rice and tofu are probably vegetarian as well. Just have to learn how to make them more interesting and tasty.rolleyesrolleyes

Vegans don't eat any produce that comes from animals such as eggs, milk cheese etc.

Vegetarians will eat these products as they don't harm the animal in their production.

Cheers biggrin

Gidday

"Nuts are not cheap"

JoyBel, there seems to be a few fairly cheap shot nuts around here.

O.K.

O.K. I know what you are going to reply to that.

At least being vegan or vegetarian seems to be one freedom the inhabitants of Godzone still have, though the gap is closing fast, as buying veges is becoming as expensive as meat.

The old roast dinner has become the only meal in a restaurant where the ingredients are still recognizable and not buried under a mountain of weeds, called mesculin. The master chef series on TV was a hands on affair where the handling of the food was off putting and against the rules of the Resaurant Laws.

To pay high prices for a meal which has been disguised under a mountain of unrecognizable stuff is the stuff that the tendies go for.

On the other side of the coin is the ghastly buffet style where everything imaginable has been cooked and sits in their trays being kept warm for hours.

So, it is all a matter of what appeals and whether Haute Cuisine is your cup of tea or maybe McDonalds and the Colonel are keeping Kiwis happy. Or perhaps when cooking your own you know exactly what you are eating. Maybe a nice fillet of real fish and chips in the park is a pleasure.

Protein is available from nearly everything we eat. Health problems in the western world more often come from too much protein not enough.
We are a high protein country and our health statistics are shocking.
I am a long time vegetarian and find the food much more interesting than when I was a meat eater. Research has shown time after time that being vegetarian is better for your health. Personally I abhore the cruelty involved in meat production.

Strikes me Sepia that the Health Problems in the Western world are more to do with too much processed food along with addition of Sugar in so many forms.
My Ex who has a long association with Diet had seen over 300 people before i moved on and she said 'The sickest people i see are Vegetarians' - not because vegetarianism is bad but too often people make the change and think it is only about removing meat from the Diet, without giving due consideration to finding needed essential nutrients from other sources. My suggestion - if you want to take the steeper path to health by being vegetarian, do it, but make sure you do your homework first, so you can improve your health, not run it down over a few years.

majorminor - vegtetarians health stats are way better than meat eaters
so dont know where your ex got her ideas from. I do agree just cutting out meat and subbing processed food doesnt work but research has been carried out on Seventh Day Adventists for many years and they always have superior health statistics. Just look at the western world and especially New Zealand and we are way down the line in many categories with our high meat, high dairy diet.
