Am surpised you just talk about viruses, whereas spyware is just as damaging, and your suggestions of programs to help are way out of date in my opinion.
Although there areplenty of free programs I find it surprising that people are not prepared to pay small money to protect their computer.
The best according to most experts is Morton360.V5.
This may cost you $129,but Dick Smith has it on special at present. Now for this you can use it on 3 computers,so even at $129 it only costs you around $42,not a lot for your peace of mind.

Hello owen005,

"The best according to most experts is Morton360.V5." Yeah right! (Tui ad)

Well, if you want to listen to the REAL experts, then they would say that Nortons (Morton as you have spelled it) is not the best, and in fact at the bottom of the heap!

Do you work for Dick Smiths by any chance?

Go onto PC World Press F1 forums for a confirmation of this.

For a paid for anti-virus Nod 32
For the very best free AV Microsoft Security Essentials.

CB cool

Well how sarcastic to suggest I work for Dick Smith,if you really want to know how good Norton 360 V5 is,go to C Net,a world wide company,
The bottom of the heap you say, well I just read the review, did you notice its dated 2007.
Norton gives TOTAL protection, not just antivirus, got any other reviews I should read, preferably up to date.

Ok, I apologise for asking if you worked for Dick Smith. I guess it was a little sarcasm on my part.
I won't apologise for saying that I don't like Nortons. Are you a computer tech that has to deal with all the viruses and and other rubbish that Nortons fails to detect, on a daily basis, in a real world situation? I know several other techs that will back me up on this.
I know that reviews are not always accurate, however I stand by what I have said.
MSSE gives excellent protection for free, and Nod 32 as a paid AV is still the best. I don't work for either of those companies.

Cheers, CB

Am I a computer tech,no,but apparantly you know a lot to say they have to deal witjh rubbish Norton misses.
However I know of guys that work for "Geeks on Wheels",one of the largest computer tech firms in NZ.
They swear by Norton, but hey, that is just their opinion and how would they know.
Lets just beg to differ, but you are talking about anti virus protection,I am talking about total protection.

Yes, I will agree to differ and everyone can have their own opinion of course and it would be a sorry world if we couldn't. I hope that Norton has improved since it now covers all aspects of security.
I prefer to run separate applications because if you have just the one, that does everything and it "crashes and burns", then you may be more vulnerable to attacks.

You obviously are keeping up with the play and I do hope that you will continue being on this forum in a contributing way. Hey, there are a lot of people on here that appreciate advice on many subjects.

Cheers, CB biggrin

Yes, Super anti spyware is good and Spybot search and Destroy (sans Teatimer).
Malwarebytes I have been using for a few years now.
MSSE has anti spy/anti malware in too.

Windows Firewall, and I have a wireless router firewall too.
Cheers CB biggrin

There is a great site that reviews freeware for almost anything.
The site,Gizmos, and would recommend folk to have a look at it.
Surprising what you can find if you google what you are lloking for.
I deleted some photos I wanted back, asked google and found a program called "Recuva".
To really and totally uninstal a program there is Revo Uninstaller.
Had a file which I was unable to delete, asked google and found a program called Unlocker, does the job great.
Maybe I should have started a new topic for this, what do you think,

Revo Uninstaller is a good tool and recommened by lots of PC Techs. I have used it on a number of occasians to remove Nortons lol. Although they do have an uninstaller on their site.
Have also used Recuva to get back stuff. Nice to share with someone who is also up to date with what's going on in the tech world.

Sometimes people have a prob with getting back emails (OE) which they have accidentally deleted permenantly from their computers. There is a program that one can get which restores those enails from the dbx folder. (Not everything that you "delete" goes away, and can be recovered).
