Been wondering if the complaints I have started getting the last few years have anything to do with this childhood illness. So if any of you would like to swap notes , it could be interesting. Also has anyone any idea what sort of drugs would have been given at that time (I'm talking back in the dark ages here -1949).

Hi Pom Pom: I remember nursing these cases...there is still the isolated case of Scarlet Fever around amongst the Maori population. Penicillin was given in large doses as an "umbrella treatment". Often the patient ended up having Heart Surgery to repair Heart Valves that were damaged during the duration of the illness. Penicillin may have been available by then...earlier supplies were sent to the troops during WWII...otherwise maybe it was the old Sulpha drugs. There will be folk out there who can add more info.

Hi again Pom Pom: totally disregard my earlier post..I got my addled brain mixed up. I was thinking of Rheumatic Fever not Scarlet Fever. However I did see one case of Scarlet Fever. Think it started with a sore throat and then rashes developed and a bright red tongue. A lot of cases were nursed at home. Penicillin or Sulpha drugs were used when available. Think that it has been eradicated now Rheumatic Fever was also prevalent about the same time as was Diptheria. Apologies for the confusion. lol

Yes pompom I had Scarlet Fever as a child and the main complication was rheumatic fever which could lead to rheumatic heart disease in later years, fortunately I developed neither

Thank you both. I didn't have those complications either . But I have always had sinus problems & have a weak immune system & wondered if they are connected.(I always look for reasons!) I remember being in an isolation hospital for weeks.Dreadful experience.I am also allergic to penicillin , which may have resulted from massive doses then ?

hi Pompom..everything in the past affects the future, and in the case of the drugs you were on as a child, esp big doses, this could easily make you sensitive to them now.
this happens to me even with foods that i eat on a daily basis, esp in the starch and sweet line.
I now can't eat breads, and even spuds affect me, mainly because of growing up with lots of those in my diet, and continuing on in the same course as an adult.
the body has had enough.
At the time you were on penicillin they were probably not aware that the good bacteria the drug killed off (along with the bad),should have been replaced in very large amounts. If this is not done the system can be left depleted for a very very long time. (varys in different individuals)
Some people never pick up from the side effects of drugs.
there are ways to boost the immune system and to help the sinus problems by natural means. If you are interested i can tell you bits about diet and remedies, if you want to hear. So let me know if you do and I'll get typing...Regards...

Drink filtered rain water .If you have any other suggestions I would be very greatful, grateful? I never know which it is , but you know what I mean.

Hi Pompom.. (grateful... I think)
You surely do have high quality foods..i would love to have all the home grown fruit again and get my veg patch going again..also love to have home grown eggs again too..,,
So you have been a long time away from dairy and meat, so obviously they are not causing or continuing your health problems.
Something to remember is that it is not what we DON'T put in the body that helps or hinders us, but rather what we DO put in. When someone said this to me a long time ago, it took dum dum a while to get it.!.
Also we have inherited problems sometimes and we have to try even harder to get rid of them.

Do you eat lots of your lovely fruit and veg Raw ??
This is so important as they have the life giving enzymes in them , and when you cook them, no matter which way you cook them, the enzymes are completely destroyed. As we grow older we produce less of the enzymes in our bodies, so we really need them from raw foods.

Do you eat raw foods at every meal"
This is important, to not only get the enzyme balance, but also to balance the acid levels in our system, at each meal time.
High levels of acid can cause health problems.

A good breakfast is raw fruit, banana and raw nuts. (not cashews or peanuts, as these are legumes, not nuts) add some dried fruit or dates if more food is needed. (It's a beautiful breakfast once you get used to it).

Lunch is great with a sandwich, if you are eating some other sort of bread, with piles of raw veg either in the sandwich. or on a plate, using the bread as an accompianment.
Or spuds, or brown rice instead of the bread.
If you can help it, best not to have protein at this meal, as protein and starch do not gel together very well...you could have peanuts or cashews though.

Tea can be a smaller salad, with cooked veg and protein, say eggs or whatever other proteins you eat. if possible don't eat starch with this meal.
Of course one can swap tea with lunch if preferred.

these are examples of balanced meals, the balancing of raw foods with cooked foods that is.
Inbetweens can be raw fruit, true nuts (not cooked), honey, dried fruit , dates, fruit teas, herb teas, and if you like ordinary tea this does not have to be harmful if taken weak and not too often.( Actually the weaker it is the more drinks you can have)..

Another point is that when we eat cooked foods, especially when they go down the hatch before the raw food, the body immediately protects itself by wrapping the food in mucous, as it regards cooked food as a foreign body.. When this has been going on for years we get a builc up of mucous in the villi of the bowel, it becomes hard and clogs the absorption of nutrients into the system. (in varying degrees with different individuals)
It also causes a mucous build up in other parts of the body.

Too many starches in the diet are mucous forming too. Many eat starch for breakfast, lunch, tea and the inbetweens as well.
Starch once or twice a day is plenty.

If you are able to, a good test for a severe dose of sinus blockage, is to eat only raw, sweet and juicy fruits for an entire 24 hours...So you start with breakfast and finish 24 hrs later at the next breakfast. (No bananas as this is a fruit starch and doesn't have the cleansing qualities of the other fruits) You should see a remarkable difference.
I have done this on many occasions, usually for 3 days though. I did one for 10 days once..lol..I can't believe I managed that now.
Stay off cane sugar in any form if you can..use honey instead.

Are you allergic to anything, such as dust and pollen??
Since you are off dairy, i thought you might be.
too many grain foods, and starch in general, and cane sugar can also cause allergies.

Where alternatives are concerned there are specific herbs that work on strengthening the Immune system, and to relieve sinus problems. (This is so different to taking Vits and Mins),

Astragalus fortifys the immune in a building way.
Echinacea is a stimulator for the immune system in cases of crises, such as the flue.
Rosehips in concentrated form (capsules), along with a group named CCA is terrific for hayfever, colds and allergies.
you can get these at health shops for retail prices
They are Natures Sunshine products of the highest quality..In fact they were the first ever company to put herbs into capsules.

I get mine direct from Natures Sunshine Products to get them at warehouse prices, and I also provide them for others at that low price, plus cartage. ( a hobby of mine for 26 years)
Alternatively anyone can sign up for 20/00, and have them sent direct from the company. you need a sponsor to join so anyone is welcome to use my ID no. 90220, or you can take pot luck as to who the company would put you under.

That's enough for now..ask any questions you have about the things i've said and I will enlarge on it , and rest assured i do not expect you to do what I've said here..lol..I'm just sharing information which can be useful as a guide line for modification, or as it is..
regards....
PS have fished out their No...0508 70 70 70..a free line to that company..you would ask for a sign up form to be sent, and ask them to put my ID 90220 if you wish. The alternative is to get in touch with me through email if you prefer that, which I will give you and anyone, on request..
have just re read what I have written and it looks like a sales pitch, but i can assure you i do not make a profit out of the herbs..lol If I were I would have a rip roaring business going now, and I don't think I would be on grownups...c u and take care.

One of the best and easiest ways to get lots of raw vegetables and fruit into your diet is to invest in a juicer. It is easy to consume 3 carrots, a stick of celery, 2 or 3 apples and perhaps half a lemon in a large glass. Very tasty as well as very healthy too. I have a juicer but unfortunately don't use it nearly enough.

You are welcome emelle..sometimes the 3 day one is better, depends on how bad you are...Hunger for other foods disappears usually as the body goes into elimination mode, and does not desire anything else including Vegies..(they are builders not cleansers)..
wish you well if you do try it.

hi old kiwi kid...yes juices can have a place in the diet, but as you say are we inspired to get the juicer out, and then the bother of cleaning it..It is certainly better than no raw fruit veg at all and they can be delicious allright, depending on what you put in them...i am like you..i don't get it out often enough..

If we regularly use carrot juice, if our palms get tinged with orange colour, we have had too much carrot juice, and its best to knock it on the head for a while, or drink less.
one thing to remember, when juicing, is that when we throw the solid part of the fr and veg out we throw away a great deal of nutrition, which is tied up in that sort of fibre...And the fibre itself is all important too.
So wholefoods are best, and drink juice as an extra if you still want it.
Keep the skin on spuds even when mashing.(very tasty), wholemeal flour for baking, (makes delicious banana, chocolate and fruit cakes and fruit puddings), wholemeal bread (not brown bread), scrub veg rather than peel then, brown rice rather than white, (makes a delicious dessert with whipped crean and ground or flaked nuts on top)
i can give tips on converting recipes to wholemeal, and can give the brown rice recipe if anyone would like it.
