A friend has just emailed that his land in the Heathcote Valley has gone green. His brick home is in tatters and will be rebuilt. He is elated. Others are not so lucky in Parklands East and Southshore West.

We are thrilled the cordon is being reduced so some staff @ The Press can return to CBD. in Gloucester Street. Locals will also be able to appreciate earthquake damged repairs to New Regent Street which will remain cordoned off.

At last a decision. After spending a small fortune housing my tenents {two familys} i can now rebuild their homes. Yes!, jerry is doing a great job.
So sick of listening to thaose Christian fanatics going on about their ridiculous cathedral. About time the people demanded the square be renamed and a monument to those whom god could not be bothered to save be erected. Show respect for our dead , NO CATHEDRAL.

BD, There are still a few who display a complete lack of compassion/ understanding over what each of us have endured in losing our landmarks & our roots

Is the Gerry Brownlee who is adamant that market forces will resolve Christchurch,s rental housing crisis and the availability of affordable sections the same Gerry Brownlee who quickly intervened in the market to ensure that speculative tradesmen did not "price gouge" by contracting Fletchers to manage EQC repairs and by placing arbitary cap on tradesmens rates.?Is this the same Gerry Brownlee who appears to be protectin international insurance companies from their ethical and possibly legal obligations to their policyholders by using tapayers funds to buy out redzone homeowners? Is this the same Gerry Brownlee who routinely witholds and obfuscates the information that is vital to insured homeowners if they are to make diligent and prudent commercial decisions.? If so,that Gerry Brownlee appears to be very selective as to when market forces apply and for whose benefit? A Good Letter To The Press David Marra.!

Cannot believe what im reading . Dr l , A lack of compassion you have endured over landmarks & roots. People have endured the loss of homes and family and your concern is about landmarks.
Im sure when you get to the pearly gates you wiil find very few brownie points given for your concern for landmarks and heritage.

medallion,Thanks for your concern. My landmarks & roots included my parents home of 40 years and where I grew up. It also included my places of work and my friends homes & places of work.Close friends nearly died at my parents home.

We are all different, medallion, and I have been here over 80 years. As a first generation eurokiwi my upbringing was amongst the Scot - Irish catholic relations who immigrated together.
There is a fatalistic streak in me,no doubt from the stories of the English invaders who had to have every man and his dog under their rule. The CBD was where you went to work and payed the bills and bought the clothes, in fact only food wasn't bought there.
We were suburbanites. Going to town was an event and the buildings held no historic value to me. I enjoyed the lovely places like the Gardens but it was people who filled my daily life.
We get through as best we can as we have been brought up and where our values lie is what keeps us going.

Medallion, Joybel echoes for me the bit about CBD or Town. I think we will become more suburban as we rebuild now our villages around CBD now and appreciate what we have around us.I am a fourth generation Kiwi of English & Irish descentMy grandparents on my mothers side emigrated from Ireland. So I have lived & worked in Christchurch all of my over 73 years. That helps to shape ones thinking about ones landmarks and roots.I have also lived, worked and played within 5kms of where I live now all my adult life.

People Power proved once again that decisions can be overturned. Secretly CCC Staff had arranged without full public consultation or even elected members discussing it to Dump 5000 tonnes of Asbestos waste @ Burwoods landfill very close to homes. People Power overturned that decision thanks to solid work from Cllrs Glenn Livingstone and Peter Beck.
