we have a caravan, and one year we took our cat.
We let her roam around when the doors and windows were shut. during travelling we kept her in a cage in the car.
when we were parked we also kept her caged, but eventually trained her to stay within the awning--with her food and litter tary. Its a risk at first, but take one day at a time. I think it depends on the cat, they all have individual personallities. I never used a lead--but maybe start now while you have time--worth a try---good luck!

Have a Microchip inserted. Also make sure she is wearing a collar and ID tags. Train her to a leash. Is she is a "home cat" i.e. not prone to wandering? I would be aware that she could get spooked by strange noises/smells etc. Depends entirely on the cat. Good luck :-)

Just a word of warning - have you tested how she/he travels yet? One of ours gets terribly car sick and we had a terrible time with her on a trip we took her on. Never again !!

My old cat hated travelling. She was quite capable of meowing very pathetically too so that it was heartbreaking to hear her. I have heard of cats which love to travel, although they do seem to be in the minority.

Have just discovered that my cat that gets really sick travelling likes to be able to see out!! I suddenly thought last week that humans who get sick travelling like to see the horizon so why not a cat & sure enough she almost loved the trip when I piled up her cage to the window level. (This was only to the vet but even short trips she was getting sick.)
