http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/05/16/vitamins-d-and-k2-reduce-osteoporosis.aspx
Seems a better approach to me.

The simple answer to "high" cholesterol is to ask why is it "high"?
Our blood vessels can be damaged in a number of ways - through irritations caused by free radicals or viruses, or because they are structurally weak - and when this happens, the body's natural healing substance steps in to repair the damage.
That substance is cholesterol.
Cholesterol is a high - molecular - weight alcohol that is manufactured in the liver and in most human cells.
Like saturated fats, the cholesterol we make and consume plays many vital roles. The best way to "lower" cholesterol is to remove the need for our body to have to increase it's manufacture by looking at our diet. By cutting out a lot of the "processed" foods such as white sugar, white flour and most importantly man made hydrogenated fats and oils.
Refined cooking oils and margarine are among the worst foods that we can eat.
By reading labels on the products it soon becomes crystal clear where the the dangerous damaging materials are coming from. This change of attitude to food is in most cases hard to keep to, but to regain our health and remain healthy our life could depend on it.
On radio ZB Talk back this morning Mike Hosking read a headline from Australia, that the right diet was found to prevent melanoma, and that melanoma was in fact not directly caused by the sun.
By nine A M we had a doctor on the news bulletin saying that men in New Zealand were careless when it came to using sunblock. No mention of the earlier headline.
A lot of us know that using sun block reduces our vitamin D, by blocking UV B rays,
which with the wrong diet increases the danger of contracting melanoma
By the way: How many know that most "sunblocks" let UV A rays through and block UV B (good) rays.

Lind079; Suggest that you check out "Weston A. Price Foundation
There is a lot of information to be found there that could cover your problem
Have a look at "Chris Masterjohn's article in there about Sea food to Sunshine and vitamin D.

Another way of looking at cholesterol is to think of it as a passenger on a bus
The bus is the LDL that carries the cholesterol to the cells. and the road is the blood stream. How many know what PUFA's are? (They are Polyunsaturated fatty acids) found in vegetable oils
When these are processed by for example hydrogenation and or "refined' the structure of the DNA is damaged by oxidation, heat, light and pressure.
this forms "trans fats" made up of "free radicals" (unpaired electrons) that play havoc with the electrons in our cells (inflammation"
this leaves damaged particles in the blood stream that the immune system has to clean up
to do this the immune system has to manufacture enzymes from cholesterol to do the job
cholesterol is made from "saturated fats" As the damaged particles are gobbled up by the immune system they form "plaque"
the more damage , the more plaque
Doctors tell us that hydrogenated vegetable oils (margarine) are good for us and that saturated fats are dangerous

carl - why do u have to fight cholesterol? It is a natural product and is produced by the body. When there is no agreement as to what the levels should be, then why try and lower them to some arbitrary level.
