For those with a large CD collection
Have any of you had the CD problem of [tarnishing or browning] I understand it is applicable a lot of makes, it is a breakdown of the silvering layer [oxidation] that is used to digitally write on, this results in the usual skipping and stuttering that you get with a scratch. But of course in this case the CD is not scratched. You will eventually get to the position of being unplayable and therefore not able to copy, remember the hype when Cds first came out, they will give you “a lifetime of perfect music“, so some of the Cds that you paid $35 plus for are going to be useless soon if not already as in my case, the bad news is that the retailers don’t want to know, I approached one of NZ top music retailers and was told that Cds have only a 8-10 yr life.

This is a big worry! Can you still buy cassette tapes these days? I'm going to have to put all my CD's onto tape!

Later. I have managed to establish that you acn still buy cassette tapes. Thank goodness for that, because all my CD's are going onto tape!

We have been trying now since the season opened in the North Island to catch a decent feed of whitebait but for some reason they are becoming harder to catch , people are saying that this could be the worst season on record , anyone else having the same problem or is it just us here in the Bay of Plenty :

Too bad Gordon, but what's Whitebait got to do with tarnished CD's?
The problem with tapes is they don't last now either, and it's diffulcult to get a decent tape recorder. The best way to record is obviously on an I-pod.But I cant get my discs anywhere near the thing. They are just too small.Any ideas how to record CD's onto an I-pod?mrgreen

AND - if you Still want to hear them on your Sound system - you can then re-burn them off to CD again - a fresh new one biggrin , you know you can burn - depending on the length of the CD - up to maybe 30 CD's onto One DVD !! either way you'll have them to listen to - AND have a backup set on the PC. - though I'v got CD's here thatare wel over 10 years old - no problems at all - wonder if it could maybe be storage conditions - heat/light/damp/sun ? ? ? ?
