GayeBelle, "N.Z always helps other countries too Mona, when there is a need.
I know some countries are having terrible disasters of their own, but a little help from some that can, would be appreciated. "
Actually, America did offer assistance but was told we had it all under control.

I am getting a little bit concerned about my son and his family up in Brooklands. They say everything is OK but he is in the firebrigade and I fear that he is spending too much time helping others and not enopugh time at home with his family in the damaged house..
Am I being too bloody sensitive?

I think that is a natural concern OJ. I am sure all firemen, police, civil defence etc are told ensure everything is OK at home before they are sent out to help others. Being a parent ourselves, we are naturally concerned about our own kids (no matter how old they are) and the grandchildren. Try not to worry too much - but then, that's easier said than done.

Supergold, I can agree with you whole heartedly here. Once a parent, always a parent in my books, regardless of age of our children, grandchildren etc. I think we can always worry about our own families and as you say, easier said than done.

OJ,they probably don't want to worry you,but if there was anything serious I'm sure they'd have told you. And people have been pretty good here,so its likely that his family has support from neighbours,so try not to worry - daft thing to say,you will anyway - its what parents do!

OJ it certainly isnt easy when not there on the scene.
Cant begin to imagine what its like for all the ones affected on Saturday morning ,with the original terrifying one, and all still going thru the aftershocks over 5 days later.
BD is right in what she says, everyone is helping side by side with who they can.
We are in the opposite situation to you in that its not our children there , but elderly Parents Nieces and Nephews Aunts and Uncles and Friends.
Between us all away from the EQ, we are taking it in turns contacting and passing all the messages round the familes so we dont hold up all the home lines etc as most of the older ones arent on Comp so the younger ones do the running n relaying (Us included in that remark)
Thinking of you all and our families ,and will keep checking, and prepared to do whatever may come up ,in the near future,.
Hope some of you got some good sleep at last and know we are thinking of you all from near and far

OJ he may find it easier for himself to cope if he is kept busy.
I remember a friend of mine once who had lost his sister in a car accident. I knew when contacting him he would be at work, and he was.
As he said, "this is the only way I can cope is in my work."
Kai your country is having a time of it in Victoria with the flooding, how are things going there?
