Rotorua is an underground explosion waiting to happen. I can imagine a chain reaction occurring when the big bang goes off. It will be an enormous fireworks display.

If I lived in Rotorua I'd be scared to stick a spade in the ground in case I started a geyser!

It hasn't happened yet and as long the underground relieves the pressure with a few blow outs I think Christmas will be a good way to relax and enjoy the bounties we are so fortunate to have. Summer will come, I am sure. Just can't put a date on it.lollol

I can remember a Maori guide saying that the Rotorua geysers were not working so well because of all the excavation at Wairakei-near Taupo, miles away. The Maoris protested about it.

They protest everything, but are happy to exploit it, just as everyone else does!

These are only little ones, nature is just letting of a bit of steam. See my thread Earthquakes and Volcanoes for some really scary big ones

Will do, thanks Chris21-4.
I was just surprised at the apparent 'swarm' in the one area and the shallowness of the activity.

Gidday

Just after the big one at Edgecombe I picked up the Bay of Plenty Times and the big headlines where:

EXPERTS SAY THE BIG ONE IS UNLIKELY.

Of course the paper had been printed just before it it happened.

So muc h for bloody experts Eh!

Canterbury, you may have felt this mornings 7.4 shake at around 4.35am. It was 30km west of Christchurch, 33km deep. Felt it here in Wellington 2 minutes later! Hope everyone is OK.
