I wrote about difficulty i was having quite a while ago with making a DVD slide show.I was told that the little box that goes in the hard drive was faulty.
What I want to do is make DVDs of gardens of friends, and trips, and add music.
I paid a man $140 to insert a brand new'Life's Good internal super multi DVD rewriter'
I put photos from 'my pictures' on to a new DVD disc ,but it will not play on the Television(but it will as a slide show on the computer screen)! I also tried to put music on from music that i had put on 'my music' but cannot get it on either.I have spent several hours in frustration.Has anyone got any ideas please?

Hi Emelle,
What type of blank DVD discs are you using?
Also what software are you using to make the disc?
It sounds to me so far that you are not finalsing the DVD and making a multisession DVD instead which would be why it plays on the computer but not the TV.

thank you so much Sweep-I phoned the computer man and he said the same-I bought a set of discs from him that he said would work.Hyena DVD+R.I cannot 'finalise'---i manage to get to the option that says 'finalise/unfinalise,and up comes'this disc type is not supported'So i put it on another disc-a sony rewritable and the same thing happens.I also get to where i have to drag the music i want and put it into a sqare and it says words i can't think of at the moment, but means the music cannot be put on the disc.
anyway-the man is coming out today(I hope) and i hope i don't have to pay him any more-$140 is a big chunk out of the budget.
But thanks for your advice-I am so frustrated as i really want to make discs.
By the Way-Do music discs have something put on them that means they cannot be copied? It is only for my own use and i had bought the music disc honestly.

Hi Emelle,
Most ( if not all ) Music CDs are copy protected and there are several forms of this. Game CDs have similar protection as well by the way.

Hi Emelle,
You can very often RIP CDs with Windows Media Player and extract them as .WMA files to your PC. Then you would have to convert them to a format that would be compatible with DVDs. This may require paying for DVD authoring software however.
You have not said what software you are using so far.

Thanks-you have been generous with your knowledge,Sweep,as has Cookybaby regularly too.By software,do you mean 'windows xP?
I am also on dial up so accessing music and film is impossible for me,unfortunately.Hopefullly-one day! I have waited around the house for two days now.waiting for the computer man-can't start any big task in the garden or anything.

Hi Emelle,
Windows XP is an operating system. The software you need to burn the dvd is a program like Nero, Imgburn, DVD Flick Or even Windows Media Player.
I take it that you do actually have a DVD Writer/CD Writer Drive on your computer?

Emelle, I'm like you. I don't understand all the `techno-babble'. Sweep and Cookybaby are God-sends!

yes GG-I am so grateful- the information they share so kindly is so valuable.
I do have Nero installed-it was what i have used before. What was installed by the computer man was something called'LG -Life's Good' just reading from the box 'Super Multi DVD rewriter. It easily put the folder of pictures i wanted on the DVD and then i clicked on 'make a cover' -great stuff-(breezed along thinking this is good!) then came to play it on the TV and nothing !
I decided to try with Nero this morning and it took me to the new system - it has a column 'Power producer, Power 2 go etc. Also went to Disc utilities. But it all grinds to a halt
Never mind-a good cry and away i go again-still waiting for a phone call-hope he comes before the weekend.

Hello to who may help me with this problem I have.
I have a programme called Greetings Workshop. When trying to activate it a little window comes up with wording, 'I am having trouble with a database.' I firstly do not know what it means.
I don't seem to be able to open the programme as I used it quite frequently to make cards. Was annoyed I couldnt make a card for my granddaughters birthday this last Monday!!
Hopefully someone can help. Cheers celiarose

I worked on it, Sweep, and now have reduced the size of the page by altering the pixels. My monitor is large, on diagonal is 54 cms. The text is good as well.
Until my next disaster you take care, and carry on the good work with cookybaby. Much appreciated.
