Depends on what type of DIY you want to do. If it's for something round the garden, how about trying a plant trough.

I would love to be able to do a DIY repair on my dishwasher and Insinkerator. The gurgler gave up first and the Dishwasher a month later. I have a feeling they are somehow connected and that it is going to cost me a few hundred dollars.

How do you mean "gurgler gave up first " Joybel ? Did the motor cease up ? Is it blocked... maybe have something jambed in it ?
I guess something like that would cause the water from yr dishwasher to "backfill " causing it to not empty out and and flood the place.
How do you know it is going to cost $$$$ hundreds ? It may not be as bad as you think really.
I had a similar scenario a few years back and was really dreading having to replace my washing machine. I had to do something though, because you soon get sick of washing clothes and linen by hand . I mean, I could manage without a dishwasher, but not the clothes washer so I had to bite the bullet and got the serviceman in. Turned out to be something very minor, and was less than $100. Phew.. that was a relief. He was such a nice man too, for when I told him how pleasantly surprised I was, because I was worried about how much it might have cost me, he even said that if I liked, I could pay half then and the other half the following month. I did not take him up on that, but there would not be many who would make such an offer would there ?

Although I am fortunate enough to have a brother who will put things together and fix things for me,it doesn't seem right to me to impose on his good nature too often.I am not mechanically minded. If I am to start on my own DIY where would be a good place to start?
