What an excellent article you've brought to our attention ocker, I cannot fault the guys argument, and it reinforces what I said recently, the ideas behind science are not difficult to understand, although admittedly the minutiae of the math etc can be trying. The "scientist" that came up with the complex "chemistry" behind the ozone hole over the Antarctic was rewarded with a Nobel Prize I believe, does this not strike you as 'political science' gone mad? Because of that, the whole world had to stop using CFC's! If you looked into the question of who benefited from that expensive exercise (Cui Bono?), what would you find I wonder?

Surely the Ozone Hole issue is one which supports your view on experimental physicists.

The Ozone depletion is identified by observation. A chemical process that explains the depletion is identified in the lab with experimentation. The cause being CFCs and their use is then plotted against the increasing depletion and the results match.

CFCs are banned and the rate of depletion decreases as the CFCs work their way out of the atmosphere over the time period identified.

How can you complain about this when it follows the very method of observation and experimentation you say is the way to do science?

Thanks for another interesting article albeit badly reported by the media.

Check the line at the end of the article:

Now check the closing line of the actual reort:
Further well-replicated MXD-based reconstructions are needed to better constrain the orbital forcing of millennial scale temperature trends and estimate the consequences to the ongoing evaluation of recent warming in a long-term context.

Note the words "ongoing evaluation of recent warming in a long-term context"

Then check the actual report at Nature Climate Change. The report is very technical but if you want to skip the detail scan down to the graphs about half way down the report and consider that the temperatures have been gradually cooling for 2,000 years and then spike upwards over the last 50 or so years, the scale is a bit hard to read.

What the report actually shows but that the Daily Mail didn't want to report (why spoil your editorial direction with the facts) is that the trend has been cooling until man made global warming kicked in and has reversed in so short a time span what nature had taken 2,000 years to achieve.

That is what is so worrying, the speed of the warming. It is unprecedented.

If the ozone hole is a myth why didn't all the companies making money from producing CFCs not take the readily available scientific equipment to the poles and show that it was a myth?
