Hi Gaye-Belle, OlliM and all. I was just reading all the letters on this site and am considering joining a Book Club at our local U3A next year as I am always reading something! A book that I found fascinating, though it was a wee bit slow at the start, was Room by Emma Donoghue. About a mother
and son living in a small room at the back of a section at the will of some bloke who locked them in and their eventual escape and how they had to adjust to normal life. Also, The Help by Kathryn Stockett about negro servants in big houses who clean and more or less bring up the children of the white people. An interesting story.
I must try books by Ken Follett. I have seen a few in book stores but have read any. The Stieg Larssen books are great too.

Hi, I loved Diana Gabaldon's books, but I must admit, the last couple weren't up to the standard of the earlier ones. And I really don't like the Lord John Grey stories much. I didn't like her last one - An Echo in the Bone - too long and waffly. Here's a great book though, Gaye-Belle, if your book club likes NZ authors - Pearces' Ocean - written by an Auckland writer, Tony Pearce. I am a freelance publisher and did Tony's book for him. It is excellent. Historical drama based loosely on his own family history - Cornwall, smugglers, sailing ships etc. Great read! Had an excellent review from a US writer too. You can find it here - http://www.pearcesocean.com/ - he'd be really chuffed if some book clubs read it!
