Hello all - am new to this (both Grownups and Genealogy) that is. I want to compile a chart starting from my parents and showing my siblings (9 of us in total) and their descendants. I would like to include: sibling birth date and place, who they married (many more than once!), their children & whom the children married & when and where, grandchildren and so on. At this stage I do not want to go back past my parents although I have some information on this. According to some of my nieces & nephews I am the only one who knows much about the family and they want this recorded. I am prepared to do this but need to have a computer programme to start with. Has anyone any suggestions. I am computer literate in a amoderate sort of way. Any suggestions or ideas where I can start from would be gratefully received. Regards to everyone who reads this and looking forward to some suggestions.

Vimp, I have had the Family Tree program for several years now, which gives you a layout of several ways to show who's who and who goes with which branch of the family by generations. It also allows for more than one spouse. There are other such programs on the market. I am the youngest in a family of 10 and the only one to do any research. Not everyone is interested even to give out details. I have given up with the younger generations as it got too confusing with defacto relations etc. with many of our neices and nephews becoming grandparents. I do not live in the same area that the remainder of the family live. Join the NZ Society of Genealogists or join your local club. Best wishes.

Hello Justme - thanks for taking the trouble to reply - the "Family Tree" program you mention sounds what I need. Is this available on line? If so, are you able to give me the web address please. As you also have a large family and sounds like the same problems of defactos, one-parent etc. you will understand what is needed? Yes, I have yet to cross the hurdle of some giving out information but as I am quite friendly with most of them and most that have spoken to me are receptive to it being recorded for the future, I am hopefully not anticipating too many problems but only time will tell! I am usually considered the eccentric aunt but they respect my accuracy with things so I am hoping this will be to my advantage. Will let you know how I get on. Thanks and regards.
