"Malnutrition is driving up rates of Third World diseases among New Zealand children, a leading paediatrician and researcher says."
Who would ever have thought that this could happen in our country of milk and honey. But then these two commodities have risen out of the price range of low income earners. The demise of childrens' health care organisations has also contributed to the sad state of neglect many children are now experiencing as these babies slip under the radar of expert health care.
Up to the age of six, children have free doctors visits. Are they being taken by their mothers. Does a doctor have a duty to notify the dreaded CYPS when a child is seen to be suffering neglect and the ignorance of it's parents.
Where are the extended families of these children, the doting grans' who knit and sew and babysit and generally help any way thry can. Everyone is after more money these days and grans are no exception as many are living alone and struggling with their own needs. Have we gone past the point of no return?
