Hi Janni and welcome...
You are very wise with keeping it out of the house..it is so easy to reach for the easy fix when it is there. I hope your health problems disappeared by giving it up.
Also the fact that you craved for more sweet things after your business dinner surely shows that it was the type of general eating that sets people off ... and haven't we mostly been eating those types of dinners our whole lives? So it starts in childhood really. I remember always wanting a bit more after the sunday roast followed by steamed pud. We were usually not allowed more, but when we become indepenent that desire stays and then it is up to us to say "no".
I am like you..if I stay away from it altogether I can control the cravings, and can walk through the supermarket and not even think of going near certain ailses..

Thank you, Bobbity. I will take a trip to Bin Inn and get some oatmeal I don't know the type that Dad cooked, but it would have been the basic kind. Sorry to hear the Gisborne brings back sad memories - I just wish that it was a little cooler just now. We have had some hot days - 35 degrees on Sunday.

Hot and HUMID up here Gisbo..Horrible to be wet most of the day. It's worse inside than outside.
It was a double murder many years ago that was the saddening thing. we even went to the house where it happened..horrible...

We want rain here, Bobbity. Water restrictions have just come in and the farmers are finding it very dry. Not a very nice experience, you had.

Joybell - I used to hog the sugar. Never touch it now I've had a heart attack. I use liquid honey as a substitute and never think of sugar. Best of luck. Ya gotta be determined.

Hi... I can relate to all that people have written. Regarding wanting more if you have some .... once a week I have a business meeting where we have a meal and I always eat more than I should (including desert). When I leave the meeting I find I am craving something sweet like a coffee and a slice. Crazy, no?
When for medical reasons I went right off sweet things (and a host of other things including all dairy) I used to deal with the craving for sweet things by drinking a (another!!) glass of water. I also had the option of a piece of fruit which was very much allowed.
I find it best not to have sweet stuff around and dont even think about when I am in a dairy or supermarket. Loking at my whole diet sweet stuff like biscuits and sugar in tea or coffee are my letdown.
