That's right Flower - & the bigger you are,the less work it is as less movement is required to make the move visible. Basically it's lots of fun as well as good exercise.

Well Bazza...since you mention it,there are two male belly dancers that I know of & probably more. Though male dancers are more common overseas.
Perhaps you should give it a go!

Thanks for all the support but I don't see me with a jewel in my belly button. I'll stick with the Hula. There is classes in Whitianga for Belly dancing, a very strong group. I do do a bit of dancing in my boat when I've got a big fish on though. Cheers, Bazza.

Never realized this site had a discussion board. So, as someone said - no, it isn't that hard on your knees - assuming your knees are good enough for a short walk. If you have difficulty walking then, yes, you'll have difficulty.

Yes, men do belly dance. Three of my (Egyptian) teachers were men and I know a dozen or so male belly dancers in NZ, Australia and the USA. Most teachers take men - but always good idea to ask first.

My own sites are www.bellyraqs.co.nz and www.raqs.co.nz. The first is aimed more at the general public with info on classes and Hens nights etc. The other has more cultural background. I am currently working with some other teachers for a directory of classes. Will let you know when it's up.
