Ode to my Mother
I should have been there
Been there at the end,
But no one told me
That the end was near
I had to travel very far
But too late for brave farewells
Just watched the casket
Lowered down in earth
And left to imagine how
It would have been
Had I been there even
A little sooner or even
Known how swiftly you
Were to be taken away
From those you had loved
And cared for so well.
I know that you are just
As near although I cannot
See, and in times of need
You surely come to me.
I wish you well upon your
Spiritual journey and know
That you have met those
Familiar spirits who led the way.
