Raindrops Falling

Raindrops falling hazily to earth
Caressing each and every turned up face
No matter what their virtue or their worth
Giving no distinction to gender or race

As raindrops fall on the old man sitting all alone
Oblivious, he is lost in his memories of long ago
When life was full and success was well known
But now he’s just a beggar, no one cares to even know

As raindrops fall on the woman rushing quickly home
Thinking of her children, their hungry mouths to feed
Meagre pickings in her basket, too heavy to carry alone
No one to lend a helping hand, no one to take the lead

As raindrops fall on the young man standing all alone
Face towards the ground, missing the love he has lost
Regrets of things said and done, too late now to atone
Feeling the pain of his foolishness, summing the total cost

As raindrops fall on the soldier heading off to war
Fighting for our future and in his heart he knows
He may never again return to his homeland shore
For freedom he must fight, just as rivers must flow

As raindrops fall on the father, gazing upon the new born
Is the child in his arms, never to know a mothers love
Face awash with tears, his heart filled with grief and torn
For she was taken far too soon to the lord in heaven above

As raindrops fall on the woman who waits by the door
Dreading as she watches the handle turn, heart full of fear
Oh to be free of this hurt, to be beaten and bruised no more
Where has the man gone, that once her loving soul held dear

As raindrops fall on the young boy waiting at the gate
While his mother fails to hide the tears that flow each day
He sets his eyes on the horizon, and here he’ll sit in wait
Not knowing he waits in vain for the daddy who went away

As raindrops fall on the child who lay with broken body
The cruelty of fate that placed this child in the wrong hands
His innocent mind only needing to be loved by somebody
As his life is hanging in the balance drifting with the sands

As raindrops fall on me as my heart bleeds for cruel fate
And as my cries reach out to heaven, my question to ask
Have we gone too far, destroyed humanity, is it too late?
Have we as the human race, failed to carry out our true task?

Thank you jkrs47. It is a shame that the world is as it is. More love, caring andunderstanding is what we need, and the courage to step in and help others
