f anyone living within easy reach of Huapai (near Kumeu) would like to join me for a Devonshire Tea, please let me know. On Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings a lovely local cafe does them for $6 for the over 55's, and supplies the most beautiful, light scones (fruit or cheese) you've ever tasted.
Mavaurneen, you'd love their recipe!

It could be a fun morning on a winter's day :-)

sorry Mrs Quilter I have just picked up on your post here. I have trouble keeping up with everthing that is going on because I don't always get a chance to "look in" every day. Actually,
I often go out to Kumeu /Huapai for some reason or another - either to buy plants, fruit , wine or ... yes, I could extend that to include discounted Devonshire Teas as well... LOL would have to be a Wednesday though Mrs Quilter, but not for a couple of weeks because I have family arriving from overseas this coming Wednesday so will be pretty busy till they go again. :-)

If you ladies are feeling adventurous you should try `The Cottage' at Puhoi.

This little township has made itself into a pioneer village and they do the most fantastic (and ginormous) Devonshire Teas. They do lots of other food too.

The `restaurant' is a farm house and you can either sit inside or out. Outside is lovely in the summer as they have peacocks and chooks etc in the grounds.

Last time I went it cost $8 but for that we got a GIANT scone (about 4" square) with butter, cream and jam plus a pot of tea.

You can walk your Devonshire Tea off by taking a wander around historic Puhoi Village. If you are feeling brave you might even want to try the Puhoi Tavern out! wink

On the way home you can stop in at the factory shops at Silverdale then stop of at the beach (or shop) in Orewa. You might as well make a day of it!

I've been to Puhoi several times and love it. Sadly, 'ginormous' Devonshire Teas are just too much for me and I feel it wasted money, I would much rather have a normal sized scone, than have to leave half what I paid for.

I have often taken my elderly aunt to Puhoi, the museum if well worth a visit and the church is full of history too.

By the way - I now live in Glen Eden, so if anyone wants to get together for coffee and a chat in that area, drop me a line here.
