Hi there fellow stitchers. Sorry I've been absent from here for a while. With the turn of events with family matters I'm going to be a busy GUP and slightly distacted so don't think I've forgotten you, I'm still going to be popping in and I won't be far away. wink

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and I wish you a very Happy 2010 and lots of happy stitching time!! biggrin

Hi everyone,

My name is Sharon, I live in Lower Hutt, Wellington. My Mother and i have been keen cross stitchers for many years now, collectively probably over 50 years.

We are looking for keen cross stitchers around the country who would like to help us with our fundraising. We are starting a fundraising group called Pro Ability. We are a completely not for profit team.

The reason for the name: Pro Ability. This came around because my mother suffers from Post Polio Syndrome. I brought her to Lower Hutt to be closer to us here, i always knew that she had to fight to get sometimes the most simpliest items to help her with her independance. But only since she has been so close, have i now realised the extent of that fight, and also the stories from others who have to fight, or given up fighting. an example of this is that there is a man in the wellington region who has to have someone come and bath him every day - for want of a shower chair, he has been unable to find funding for this chair, so everyday someone comes and helps him bathe. Not much independance here.

I want to help people in the community with disabilities, who have been unable to find funding for items that would help them to gain more of a sense of independance. Hence the name Pro Ability.

I have the go ahead from a major publisher of cross stitch patterns to use their patterns for our cause, this was allowed as we will be making no personal profit from these patterns, all proceeds will be donated to help others. We have recently run an add in the Womans Weekly to ask for people to donate cross stitch items such as material and thread, this had such a great response!

What i would like is to increase the size of our team, 2 people can only stitch so much at a time

Please if this sounds like something you might be interested in helping us with, we would love to hear from you.

We would be providing the patterns, thread and materials required for each design - currently fridge magnets, but could be cards or book marks. These items would be sold by us at local markets and on trade me.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Sharon Heald

Hi Sharon, sounds good, would this be set up as a non profit organisation, bank account etc? are you sticking to just magnets and bookmarks or could people choose what to stitch? I am involved with a few charitable orgs and could probably round up a few more stitchers. sorry about all the questions just want to get it straight before i approach others,
Have you tried occupation health at DHB, they have chairs stools etc.hugs to both you and mum. well done on what you are trying to do

Hi Sharon, it sounds a very worthy cause and I feel sure many cross-stitchers would be happy to assist. I make all my cards using cross-stitch - as I am in the Far North anything would have to be posted, so an address would be required. You could email me at gasquoine@value.net.nz rather than put a street address on the forum.
Best wishes, Margaret.

Help please - I am trying to find a copy of Card Collection no. 188 as I want to do some of the Lucie Heaton's nativity cards. Happy to buy the complete magazine if available.
Ever hopeful! Rett.
