hi bluelady...bone density tests is just a type of scan and picks up other areas in body where bones might be fragile.spine, hips etc.
i have had many scans and take a etidrinate, calcium , supplement to boost the bones up a gain,in my case there has been a slight help.
when i had a hysterectomy ages back i had hrt treatment, then stopped that and had this course of etidrinate and calcium, every three months.
if the bones are very brittle they call it osteporosus...the course of tablets dont have any side affects for me.

Thanks Pearly. We'll see what the test reveals. I have a strong feeling that I should have been offered the calcium treatment, as I declined the HRT and decided to do the Menopause thing straight up.

For the last few years I have been receiving steroid injections into my right heel for treatment of Plantar Faciitis which has worked pretty successfully. However, last year the heel of my left foot became painful and the same treatment was done for that. The problem being that nothing helped. I was offered an anti-inflammatory drug which I then took for six months although it stated for only 2 weeks - pretty stupid of me, especially when I read the possible side-effects. My GP gave up on the problem and referred me to orthopaedics which was in September of 2007. I have just been to see them and been diagnosed with a fractured heel bone! I have been "walking"on this foot for 9 months! I am now in a moon boot and a crutch. The specialist has referred me to have a bone density test to ascertain if there are any other weak areas showing up. He was quite concerned that I have never been offered this test considering a total hysterectomy three years ago. I am 52 years old. Has anyone got any further information on medication, the test, the outcomes etc. I am rather concerned with this turn of events.
