That is interesting information bb and very clear even I can understand that.
It's all a matter of inspiration and experimenting .
And it's fun to create something.

I've got to hunt through a garage that has a 20' container load of cartons stacked in it to find my art stuff, Beachbum.
I will do my best though because your art-style looks fun.

Its a bit of 'trial and error', gg - part of the fun.
You can just dap on some water to the paper. Not all of it though. Just dap a bit of water here and there. Then do the same using each color.
"..the best way to disperse the colours?'
Just push or pull colours about with the brush.. or anything handy. (You finger, if you want.) Even just tipping the board and letting them run..
'..allow each colour to dry before you add the next one'
Nope.. I want them to run together.
Where the paper is wet it will take on its own life and spread (and lighten) as it wants. (You have to get the color on before the paper dries.. so work fast.)
Apply additional colors to blend in the same way creating new colors as they do.
I've used a mister of water as well. Some times to partly wet the paper or to apply to the colors to create a light mist. You can use paper towels as well to dap out color... to sort of make a fog look.
You may need to hold your paper down. Initially I used masking tape completely around the edge. It creates a nice white border when you take it off.. but its usually a bit crooked.
Some times I just bulldog clip the paper down onto a thin board of ply.
Other things you can try. Use a straw to blow paint about. Using a white wax candle or crayon to mark areas that paint will leave white... or showing the color under neath. Sprinkle salt onto wet paint to make a spotty effect. Pick the board up and shake it about.
Warning, warning, warning:
You may get paint flying about the room...
(so clean it up before your mum sees it...
other wise she might have a fit.)
