I'm like you Bobbity, I like modern cars and modern life depicted in paintings.

So often artists capture country scenes or pioneer days and our modern way of life is overlooked.

I think showcasing one's art on a YouTube video is a great idea!

So often people copy a photo, picture or graphic without permission so having their paintings on a video, like Alfred Memelink, makes sure that no-one can `steal' his work and it's a pleasant way of viewing each painting too.

I was having problems stretching watercolour paper one day, so I sent Alfred an email...........next thing I know he is on the phone and we chatted for ages. He was more than willing to help me.......and I haven't had any trouble stratching paper since. lollollol

He makes me feel so good about what I do too.......... He actually thought the painting of my leaves was a photograph.lollollol

I was reading about an observation recently. A teacher of water color paint concluded there were two types of water color student:

1. natural water colorists - they delight in color and the flow of water color. They're the ones who enjoy accidental spills. How ever they aren't every good at decision making required to complete a painting. That would intrude or disrupt on their creative flow. Their paintings are only complete if it managed to complete itself.

2. serious painters. They want to convey something to others. Usually want to sell their work. They labour over technique, arrangement of values, etc. They always bring the painting to completion.

-----------

In recent years I've become very interested in this first process. It is one of fun, enjoyment and is free from expectations and judgements of others..very much like when we played in a mud puddle with a stick as a kid. (I hope you had that experience when you were young.)

Its one where the painting is only secondary. The main focus is the enjoyment of doing the painting ie messing about. Water color is wonderful for that.

So guys, maybe you're one of those people with paint sets stored away but never used. Why ? Is it time or is it cost ..or something else. 'fear of failure' perhaps?

Question:
which type of painter would you like to be?

I've not attempted watercolour, Beachbum, so can't answer your question.

You should put some of your work up. wink

I like the idea of `accidental spills'. It would almost be like seeing a shape in a cloud. That could be a fun way of painting.

I'm kind of a perfectionist witch is a handicap I think but I like to try and let myself go and see what happens.
Unfortunately I'm still to busy doing the work on the land as spring is on our doorstep and need to get it all done before so painting has to wait.

Hi everyone biggrin
Sorry I haven't been in lately..........just so busy. I haven't done much painting at all. I have a commission to do so I have been preparing for that. Hopefully I will have something to show you all soon.

I love realism and impressionist painting............ I have tried the modern, but it's just not me.

We just had a winter day on the water..there were wind warnings out but it never got above 5 knots all day! It's so nice to get out on the water away from the City.

Wednesday night we have VIP tickets for Rick Stein at the Aotea Centre. Front row seats too biggrin We get to meet the man Himself and try his food before the actual show. Himself is very excited about it. His ticket was a birthday present from our son. mrgreen
I shall try and get pics............. no promises though.

Love and hugs to you all.
