While it was once overshadowed by glitzy Surfers Paradise, today Broadbeach has an attitude all of its own. Affectionately known by locals as Broadie, this laidback slice of the Gold Coast is all about sun drenched beaches, bustling weekend markets and of course, perfectly shaped waves. Not to mention one seriously up and coming “foodie” scene.
Tempted? Here are six hot hangouts that will have foodies all of a flutter.
- The Loose Moose
Find it at: 75 Surf Parade
Channelling the glam speakeasies of the 1920s, The Loose Moose knows a thing or two about how to craft a perfectly balanced whiskey cocktail. With an impressive 130 whiskey varietals and an indulgent North American inspired menu, it shuns the beer and Aussie fusion focus that’s all too common on the Gold Coast. If you’re truly hard-core don’t miss the tongue in cheek Volcanic Ass Burner, made using the hottest chilli in the world. After a fiery meal why not cool down with the Moose’s legendary Snickers ice-cream cake?
GrownUps tip: don’t forget to snap a selfie with the huge moose head hanging behind the bar.
- Ten Japanese Restaurant
Find it at: 2669 – 2679 Gold Coast Highway
With sleek décor, fabulous service and beautifully crafted sushi, Ten Japanese Restaurant is one of Broadbeach’s best date nights. There’s only one word to describe the food, and that’s elegant. The menu is ubiquitously graceful, blending traditional Japanese methods with modern techniques.
GrownUps tip: Go to town with the lavish five course degustation menu, including sake pairings and one of the 150 choices of wine.
- The Lamb Shop
Find it at: Shop 106, Oracle Boulevard
Australians love their lamb, and this Broadbeach institution is definitely fuelling the obsession. Inspired by wonderfully tender Greek souvlaki, the lamb is roasted over hot charcoals for up to four hours, then served inside doughy pita pockets and topped with a handful of hot chips. Wash it down with a speciality craft beer or cider.
GrownUps tip: This place is more than happy to offer takeaway, so why not grab a juicy lamb souvlaki to go and head down to the beach for an impromptu sunset picnic?
- The Oracle Dining precinct
Find it at: Oracle Boulevard
Forget the dreamy surf, the real star of Broadbeach is the irresistibly delicious Oracle Dining precinct. A stomping ground for Queensland’s fashion-forward and status-conscious, this stylish district is dotted with boutiques, spas and a smorgasbord of dining options. JaMn is one of our favourite hangouts, serving up organic, raw and biodynamic dishes. Oh, and when the sun goes down it transforms into a luscious dessert lounge. Sold. Brunch & Co whips up to die for New York-style sandwiches, while The Cuban lures diners with promises of tapas, paella, coffee and the best mojitos between here and Havana.
GrownUps tip: Stop by No Name Lane for a flat white that’ll give those coffee-crazed Melbournians a good run for their money.
- The Patio
Find it at: Pacific Fair, Hooker Blvd
This breezy mall is Pacific Fair’s newest casual dining precinct, with all the flavour for a lot less dollar. The contemporary food hall is brimming with choice, from Vietnamese and Malaysian to Greek to Mexican. Our personal favourite is SCHNITZ, famous for well, schnitzels. Just follow the long line of Aussies, and the smell of golden fried breadcrumbs.
GrownUps tip: On yer bike Ronald, because The Patio serves up some seriously exciting fast food. Get a hot dog fix at the Snag Stand, or head to Grill’d for fresh, artisan quality burgers.
- The Fish House
50 Goodwin Terrace, Burleigh Heads
You just haven’t experienced the Gold Coast without devouring your fair share of seafood. Get your fix at The Fish House, just across the street from sunny Burleigh Heads beach. If you’re hungry “The Fish House Experience” showers diners with a series of tasting plates featuring ocean delicacies like raw yellowfin tuna, Pacific oyster, sterling caviar and more.
GrownUps tip: Ask your server is owner Simon Gloftis is around. His legendary Lemony Fish Soup (pioneered by his grandma) is so famous that he has the recipe tattooed on his arm.
