Endless summers on Fiji’s Suncoast

volivolifijibeachWith its impossibly pristine beaches, kaleidoscopic seascapes, lush interiors and rich local culture, a spell in Fiji should do the archipelago justice. Of course, with more than 300 islands to explore picking your slice of South Pacific paradise can be a task in itself. That’s why we fell hard for Fiji’s dazzling Suncoast.

Part of the northern Viti Levu region, the Suncoast is a strikingly beautiful stretch of Fiji. A place of azure skies, crystal clear water and sunshine that just never seems to end. Perched on the sunniest stretch of Fiji’s main island, the Volivoli Beach Resort Fiji commands one of the most coveted locations on the Suncoast. While it took quite the battering from Cyclone Winston back in 2016, the ‘Vol’ is now a stylish, utterly improved version of her former self. So what’s to love about this Fijian resort that blends laidback vibes with a splash of luxury?

Location
First of all we just can’t get enough of the location. It’s an easy 2.5 hour drive from Nadi International Airport which puts you just far away enough to enjoy a secluded atmosphere, without having to venture too far off the beaten track. If you’re in the market for a sliver of real Fiji, this is just the ticket.

Your own slice of paradise
With 32 beautifully renovated rooms to choose from, the Volivoli Beach Resort is your ticket to a South Pacific dream come true. All are inspired by traditional Fiji culture, with breezy decor, wooden accents and panoramic shoreline views.

A family affair
Idyllic locations aside and boutique setting aside, The Volivoli is a family owned establishment with all the charm of a home away from home. While never compromising on quality, this is 4-star luxury with a friendly disposition. Expect a constant stream of smiles from the Darling family, which includes Steve Snr (just call him Big Steve), Gail, and their sons Steve and Nick.

The Suncoast is famous for its marine life and The Volivoli puts you at the doorstep of one of Fiji’s most mesmerising underwater ecosystems. The reefs in the surrounding Bligh Waters are some of the healthiest and most colourful on the planet which means you can expect an eyeful of anemones, tropical fish, turtles, colourful coral and reef sharks. Certified diver? Fantastic. Throw on your fins and descend on the resort’s very own Ra Divers club, a fully certified PADI and SSI Dive centre. Whether you’re a complete novice or a veteran of the underworld, they offer everything from beginner’s courses to 50 superb dive sites located no more than 20 minutes by boat from Volivoli Beach.

And if you’re not interested in the art of breathing underwater, The Volivoli is an all-round water-loving pleasure dome. Try stand up paddle boarding and kiteboarding, or sign up for a chartered fishing trip and reel in monstrous sailfish, marlin and wahoo.

Wining and dining
As far as we’re concerned eating your way through local cuisine is half the fun. At Volivoli Beach Resort you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to wining and dining. There’s no better place to gaze and graze than the onsite Nuku Bar and restaurant, with views that stretch across the swimming pool and nearby Bligh Waters. Devour a plate of freshly caught seafood, accompanied by veggies sourced from local markets. Remember those gargantuan fish? If you’ve caught one, simply ask the chef to fillet and grill, all you’ll have to order are your sides.
