Of course, on AAT Kings tours the spotlight always shines on regional flavours and you’re given lots of opportunities to taste local cuisine. If you’re looking for inspiration during ‘free time’ AAT’s expert local guides are always on hand to recommend their favourite hidden gems. Plus on all guided trips a daily delicious breakfast is included, as well as key lunches and dinners depending on where you are.

Cheers to the Golden State
Home to hundreds of wineries, WA definitely knows a thing or two about how to tend to a vine. And nowhere does it better than the acclaimed winemaking region of Margaret River. Famous for its iconic rosé, you’ll get a chance to sample the offering at the elegant Laurance Wines, then enjoy a seasonal lunch crafted with local produce. Perfectly paired, of course.

Wild flavours

Gazetted as the ‘food bowl’ of WA, Kununurra takes the concept of bush tucker to the next level. The area is strewn with plantations, growing everything from sandalwood, chia and mangoes to citrus, melons and sugar cane. You’ll get to make a toast to the latter at the infamous Hoochery Distillery, makers of legendary Ord River Rum. Using local sugar cane, wet season rainwater and vat fermented yeast, Spike Dessert and his family created a WA icon. You’ll get to tour the distillery, then sit down and try their famous Ord River Rum Cake. If you’re heading north on Wonders of the Kimberley tour, come hungry because you’ll be invited to eat your way through the Ord Valley’s gourmet spread at a private dinner held at Kununurra’s Sandalwood Factory.

A smorgasbord of stops
Whoever said three meals a day does the trick? When you tour WA with AAT Kings, your palate will be tantalised every step of the way. On the South Western Escape, one of AAT’s favourite stops is a visit to Vasse Virgin – creators of artisan olive oil, they use their liquid gold to fashion a fabulous range of edible treats, as well as luscious beauty products. Afternoon tea under a Karri tree canopy is another highlight that never fails to hit the spot after a day of sightseeing.
