Moving on a budget

Are you planning to move? Well, if the answer is a yes, then get ready for an exhausting journey. Interestingly, moving your home can quickly consume your energy and your expenses–if not handled correctly!

Thinking of moving to a new place gives you nightmares I can bet. It will blow your mind if I tell you that I have moved two times in three years, and if you have ever moved into a new place, then you might be aware of the moving challenges. In fact, moving is one of the most stressful events of your life.

Moving on to a new place is not the cheapest. But if you have a plan in place, you can move your belongings securely that too on a budget and get that much-needed boost of satisfaction.

The following ideas are tried and tested. That’s right. These clever hacks helped me a great deal and I would love to share my experience with you.

  1. Make a to-do list

Smart management of the things will give you less stress. So make a to-do list for your convenience. For example, you have to start your move with the elimination of unnecessary items and then pack your occasional clothes then wrap your home décor, and in the end, pack the kitchen items. Remember your kitchen would remain functional until the last day so it’s better to pack items in your cabinets and pantry at the end.

  1. De-clutter and Eliminate Trash

Looking at your messy home will only put you under a great deal of stress. In fact, you’ll be clueless about where to start!

Well, don’t panic. Let me help you. First of all just take a deep breath and look for the unnecessary stuff you need to eliminate. There will be a lot of things for sure. Sell the old books, newspapers, old furniture, unnecessary kitchen items and other stuff. Removing junk will give you extra money which would make relocation less of a financial burden.

  1. Reuse the old boxes and save money

Pack your home decors, accessories, and other small items in reusable plastic containers or you can use your old cardboard boxes. This will save the money you would have to spend on purchasing moving boxes or containers. Remember, purchasing packing supplies can be expensive and if you are moving on a tight budget, every single penny matters.

  1. Pack your stuff wisely

You are about to leave the house, and it will be a trouble for you if you forget the exact places where you put your stuff. So pack all the things with a sticky note or label the box.

For example, you can pack kitchen items in a box then secure the container with proper taping and write “kitchen items”. Labelling the containers comes in handy when you arrive at your destination and need to unpack the boxes.

  1. Take some handy stuff with you while visiting your new house for cleaning purpose

It’s recommended that you visit your new home before moving in. And this is the perfect time to take the smaller boxes and containers in your car. Once you move the smaller items, your moving truck will have enough space for bigger things such as furniture, large appliances and you can move the items in a single trip.

  1. Be careful when hiring a moving company

People choose to work with a professional moving company if they are moving to a new city or they need to pack and move a lot of stuff. If you hire professional movers for packing, make sure you do your research and choose the most reliable company out there. Not to forget, always compare quotes and read the fine print before signing an agreement with the moving company of your choice.

  1. Ask Friends for Help

You can always ask your closest friends and family members to help you with the packing. I’m sure we all know the deal for helping people move house, in return you need to put of a fabulous spread to keep the workers energised.
