Motoring Hints

voyageAt GrownUps, we love to share good ideas. We all spend a lot of time in our vehicles – travelling to and from work, running errands and going on long trips. We have found some helpful hints in regard to cars and travelling. If you have any others to contribute, please post them in the comments below.

  • To cool a hot car quickly, roll down one window all the way, then go to the other side of the car and open and close the door a few times.
  • To remember where you parked your car, open the map app on your phone and use the ‘drop pin’ function, to mark where you are leaving it.
  • If you ever get lost, ask a fast food delivery place for directions – they drive around the local area all the time!
  • When you are positioning your car’s wing mirrors, make sure you can’t see any part of your car in them – that means they are in the best place to avoid blind spots.
  • If your car ever becomes stuck in the mud or snow, you can use the car’s floor mats under your tyres to increase traction.
  • If you need repairs on your cars and you aren’t sure whether the mechanic is exaggerating the problem or cost, ask them to evaluate a part of the car that you know is working fine.
  • If your car is a bit smelly, you can leave an open box of dryer sheets inside – they are cheap, long lasting, and work well as an air freshener.
  • If you are driving in unfamiliar surroundings, copy the behaviour of truck drivers – if they slow down, so should you – they will know any potential danger spots as they drive the route regularly. They also communicate with other trucks, so follow them in a traffic jam – they will have asked where the traffic is clear!
  • If you rent a car, take photos of it before you drive away, it will help clear up any disputes about damage.
  • On a hot day, park your car and turn the steering wheel 180 degrees; that way, the part you need to touch won’t be as hot when you return.
