If you didn’t spot the gorilla or the changes, you’re not alone. The scientific term for missing something that seems obvious, because you were busy paying attention to something else, is inattentional blindness.
People have a limited amount of attention – and often it helps us to be able to zone out distractions and only focus on the task at hand. Other times, it causes problems if we are focusing so hard on one task that we don’t notice something important going on in the background.
