Five great TV shows for a rainy night in

TV

TVWith winter on its way, now is the perfect time to start putting together a wish list of shows to keep you entertained on a rainy night in. It’s all too easy to get lost in a black hole of content, so why not arm yourself with some trusted recommendations and treat yourself to some quality TV? From nature documentaries to topical comedy, here are some ideas to get you started.

Our Planet – Netflix

Narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough, it’s virtually impossible not to enjoy Our Planet. Spearheaded by the team behind Planet Earth, the eight part nature documentary series tackles the looming issue of climate change and how it will impact the future generations. This is a fantastic one to watch with the grandkids as they will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the future of the planet.

Love Your Home and Garden – TVNZ

There’s a lot to love about TVNZ, the state-owned network that’s dedicated to bringing Kiwis wholesome shows like Love Your Home and Garden. Hosted by charismatic English gardener Alan Titchmarsh, this lifestyle show transforms outdoor living spaces across the UK. Not only will you get to watch the makeovers, but you’ll also pick up a wealth of tips and tricks along the way.

Outlander – Lightbox

New to Lightbox in 2019, Outlander combines the historic appeal of Downtown Abbey with the excitement of Braveheart. The drama unfolds as former WWII nurse Claire Randall and her husband Frank embark on a trip to Scotland. While touring Inverness she’s transported back to the 18th century and is not only swept away by a handsome Highland warrior, but also finds herself caught up in the Jacobite risings. The show is laced with feminism themes which makes it a great pick for watching with granddaughters.

Patrick Melrose – Neon

If you liked Sherlock, you’ll love Patrick Melrose, a five-episode drama miniseries that follows the life of a man born into a self-indulgent, aristocratic family. He spirals into a path of substance abuse that’s made even more interesting by his bottomless bank account. Of course, there’s plenty of British charm and droll wit thrown in for good measure. Best enjoyed with a cup of tea and a packet of biscuits.

7 Days – TV3

Hosted by Kiwi radio host Jeremy Corbett, 7 Days is guaranteed to get you laughing. Dai Henwood and Paul Ego step up as team captains and see New Zealand’s top comedians take on a host of topical news stories, not to mention each other. It screens on Fridays at 9pm and is a great one to watch solo or with your other half.
