Celtic music is rousing, evocative and steeped in history. Irish super group Celtic Thuder are bringing their amazing show, Mythology, fresh from the top of the Billboard world music chart to New Zealand next year, an event not to be missed for Celtic music fans.

Mythology is the band’s 9th album and debuted at number 1. It is stamped with Celtic Thunder’s signature brand of Celtic folklore, harmonious arrangements and high entertainment.

Return to New Zealand

The six band members are all passionate musicians, and so delighted to be back in New Zealand.

Soloist George Donaldson says, “We were in New Zealand and due to play when the major earthquake struck Christchurch on February 22, so we had to change our plans.

“What we know of New Zealand, we love and can’t wait to share our Mythology show with Celtic music fans. The show is suitable for the whole family – sometimes we have three or four generations of the same family in the audience at once, which is pretty special.

Celtic career

George has been singing for 25 years in and around Glasgow (he’s the sole Scot in the group), but kept up a day job as a bus builder for many years, until he auditioned for Celtic Thunder in 2007. His wife has always supported his music and encouraged his leap of faith as he made music his total career.

“I have never got up with a frown since,” says George, “I do it for love rather than a living, it’ the best job in the world.”

He considers Mythology the best show they have recorded.  “We had really high expectations, we all got to put forward suggestions for songs and the very, very best were selected and we’re telling some great stories through these songs.”

Celtic Thunder are looking forward to learning more about our local culture and getting involved while they are here. They are a very close group and always there for eachother when they have to leave loved ones at home and go on the road.
