Free your mind

follow your heartWhen you are feeling a bit disjointed, having a bit of an ‘internal talk’ is a good way to investigate the cause and find a solution. Sometimes it’s hard to know the right questions to ask, so we have searched out some thought-provoking ones to get you started. If they get you thinking, or you have some others to share, please reply in the comments below.

Ponder the following, either with yourself during a walk or quiet moment, or over a good chat with friends. It might be an interesting exercise to go through with your partner as well – you can answer for yourself, and on their behalf, and compare notes with them.

  • If you didn’t know your own age, how old would you think you are?
  • What is more cause for regret: failure, or never taking on the challenge?
  • Why do we tend to spend so much time doing things we don’t like, at the expense of what we love?
  • If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
  • If happiness were money, what kind of work would make you rich?
  • If you knew you were only going to live for one more year, what would you change, if anything?
  • What is the one piece of advice you would give  a small child about life?
  • What do you do in life which sets you apart from other people?
  • What have you ever really wanted to do which you’ve never done? (And what stops you from doing it?)
  • Are you holding on to something/someone you should have let go?
  • What makes you, you?
  • What are you most grateful for?
  • What would you choose: to lose all of your past memories, or never have any new ones?
  • Has your biggest fear ever come true?
  • What have you been unhappiest about in your life? Does it still have any significance?
  • What’s your happiest memory from childhood?
  • What makes you feel the most alive?
  • Is it ever possible to know with complete certainty what is good, and what is bad?
  • If you were given a million dollars, what would change?
  • Do you think it is more important to take action a clear plan in your head, or with belief in your heart that it can be done?
  • What would you be able to do differently if you knew that no one would judge you?
  • Are you able to distinguish between what you did yesterday and what you’ve been doing every day for the past five years?
  • Do you make decisions yourself, or does someone make them for you?
  • What’s the most important promise you’ve ever made to yourself?
