Eyeing up nutrients

person-woman-eyes-face-2-copyAs we age, our eyesight can benefit from the right nutrients and, in particular, antioxidants.

A combination of zinc, vitamins C, E and copper have been studied extensively in the Age Related Eye Disease Study conducted by the US National Eye Institute, involving more than 3600 participants.

The Study investigated the centre of clear, sharp vision, at the back of the eye.  This region, on the retina, is called the macula.

The Study found that the right combination of antioxidants – including high dose zinc – helps maintain macula health in ageing.

The macula is responsible for clear and detailed central vision, allowing you to do things like read, drive and recognise faces.

This type of vision is different to losing your near or distant vision for which you can get glasses.  The macula has to be checked by an eye health professional who can give the best advice.  If you have experienced problems with your vision, early detection is important so don’t delay.

Blackmores Macu-Vision® contains 40mg of zinc per tablet, along with Vitamins C and E and copper.  This formula is evidence based and contains the combination investigated by the AREDS study.
